OK Corral shoot out question
« on: July 24, 2007, 10:25:55 AM »
I know awhile back I read that some of the witness to the shoot out said one or two of the cowboys were not armed. Has anyone other then me heard this?? I think their is a type out where one of the Clantons gives his side of that was passed down through the years. Anyone ever hear the tape? If so does he say that the cowboys were not all armed?? Got to find that tape. I think I seen it in tombstone a couple years ago. Might have to take a ride back their this winter

Billy Clayborn wisely left before the shooting started.  Ike Clanton was not armed but he ran to Wyatt and pushed his gun hand down as he passed, then ran away as soon as the shooting started.  One other (I believe Frank McLaury) took off his gunbelt to show he was unarmed but had a gun tucked in the back of his pants.  I belong to the Christian Cowboys and we do a pretty accurate re-enactment of it that is quite a hit where ever we go.  44 Man

:) 44 Man, I realize this is an old thread, but I was watching something on the shoot out at the corral last nite. They mentioned several times Doc. shooting the 10 ga., but seemed to leave the impression he did not use his pistol. From all I have read, he fired the shotgun and then drew his pistol and continued shooting.  What do you say?? :-\

Yes, he fired the shotgun, then tossed it down and continued to shoot with his pistol.  I'm trying to remember the details but I believe he only fired two or three shots from his pistol.  Of course we let Doc empty his weapon for the audience excitement of it.  It is a super fun skit to do.  I am Sheriff Behan, a pretty slippery politican trying to be on both sides at once.  It must have worked for him, as he got re-elected and went on to state politics.  Sure to hate to see his type be successful!  44 Man

44, another question about Doc. and the ok corral. I have read quite a bit about him since I was about 15, soon be 50 years worth of reading ;D :D. Over the years I have read some about his pistols, and I guess he carried a Henry .44 rifle in the troubles after the shoot out. Do you have a handle on the caliber and make of pistol he might have shot at the OK Corral.??? ??? :D

;) 44 Thanks, it is something we have visited about. As with all characters from that era, and today even, he probably carried many guns. I am looking forward to hear what your friend has to day. ;)
