action tight with new forearm

Just installed a laminated stock on my 30/30. Forearm is a very tight fit. Is this a problem? This gun was tight with the palletwood forearm, feels a bit tighter with the laminated. Lockup is good. All my other Handi's will open with just the barrel weight when the release is depressed. This rifle has never done that.

I "adjust" wood forend fit and tightness by removing the spacer and flat sanding the flat side until the forend slips on the barrel with just a little resistance, just tight enough to keep the barrel from being loose when open. You can also change the hole position, but that's pretty much permanent and all but impossible to change back. Spacers only cost $4 and are easily replaced and can be shimmed real easy to tighten a forend.  ;)

TIP: A 1" square of refrigerator magnet placed near the muzzle end of the forend in the barrel channel will eliminate or reduce vertical stringing, some use a business card, but they aren't very weatherproof! ;)

Thanks Quick!  By the way, had no idea laminated stocks would make the rifle so heavy!!! Looks good though!! ;D

Actually there's not that much difference in weight, monte carlo stock weights are: Pallet= 1lb-9oz, Syn= 1lb-4oz, Cinnamon Laminated= 2lbs including recoil pads, so the lams weigh just 7oz more than standard pallet wood, and 12oz more than syn, if you're going from syn to lams, 12oz is a noticable difference tho. ;)

sanded the spacer, didn't take 5 minutes!!! Thanks Quick!!

BTW, went from a straight stock to a monte carlo. Gonna have to get some higher rings! ::)
