I have a 91/30 that I have used for deer.  It is fun to shoot and surprisingly accurate.  I picked it up at a gun show and the stock was a mess.  I purchased an after market stock for it and added a scope as well as one of the bent bolt kits.  The only thing I don't like about them is the safety.

Never had a shot at a deer with it but I was shooting Wolf ammo and my gun seems to like it.  Also have some ammo that I purchased on line that has a lighter bullet but also seems to group well.  For the money, you can't beat them.      ;D
Why is there never enough time to do it right but there is always enough time to do it again?

I have trouble seeing the rear open sight so I made a "peep" & installed it on the bolt.  Works good for me.  If you want a pic, I'll put one on a new topic.  I feel like I'm hijacking this post.     I expect I might shoot a deer this year with it.  I've been pulling the 200 grainers and neck sizing with a "different" die & replacing it with 165s.  Seems to work good.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!

I've been a Mosin collector for a couple of years now. Never really considered hunting with one, as I always just used them for blasting away with cheap milsurp ammo and making big fireballs at the range. Then I bought a 91/59 on a whim, with a pristine bore and super sharp rifling. I didn't want to shoot corrosives through it, so I started handloading x54R. Then I put a scout base and a Burris 2.75x20 scope on it, and it will outshoot many of my more expensive rifles. I can load it for boar or deer (or just about anything else in the US, with bullets readily available from 110 grains all the way up to 215 Woodleighs from Midway.)
