Personally I have for the most part used the Remington's simply because they shoot well in my rifle, ( a Ruger Compact), and for the price. I generally hit them on sale and pick up a hundered rounds or so at a time. I have also used Winchester, Federal, and Hornady, in several configurations as well. But for as much as I shoot that darn little gun, I cannot load as cheap, as I can generally get the plain ol Remingtons, and they shoot better than anything I tried to load for this rifle anyway.
As for performance on critters, I haven't taken a white tail with it yet, but I have taken over a hundered hogs over the past few years. Here are a few that were at ranges from 5yds out to over 400, using the Remington 150gr Core-Lokt's. Yes the others have done just as good a job, but they also cost around twice as much per box as well.
A good friends very first which weighed 320#, range about 10 yds.
Nice Tusker taken by me at around 75yds, weight 245#
My biggest sow to date plastered the scale, tops out at 400#, range 285yds.
The biggest taken from our farm by my Grandson and me. Range 450+, weight - heavy no scales.
A 45 min. round trip, from barn to a gravel pit and back, on my friends place, ranges from about 4ft. to 250yds. weights , didn't have time to check them. Guessing - 1 from 15# to around 60 - 150# on the rest.
Pick which ever shoots the best, but I wouldn't knock the preformance of the Rem. I have never felt undergunned with them, and figure the way they drop these hogs a deer wouldn't be a problem. Every one that has been hit square was DRT, and the few that weren't, didn't go but a few yards, if that. It don't take much more to convince me they work. Hogs are tough critters on just about any bullet.
