Buffalo arms has lots of different brass for 40/70 .You could also try some 405 Winchester recently made by Hornady.Arnie

i saw buffalo arms website i only found loaded ammo for the ballard,at a mere $130/box,reminds me one of the reasons i handload, lol.i guess i need to call them to find out about the brass,as for the 405,i don't think it wuld work much better than my 444 brass is,still wouldn't have proper headstamp.thanks, adker

Grafs has 40-70 Sharps straight brass if it will work. If they won't which I suspect is the case, TOTW list 40-63 Ballard brass, not cheap either!!

i don't think the sharps will work,i believe they are 45/70 base/rim dimensions,i don't have a book handy, but i'll check on it,i think the 40/63 is the same maybe a little shorter overall, thats one of the problems with the 444 brass as well,a little short, again i'll check into it.thanks adker

My COTW 4th edition says the 40-63 and 40-70 Ballard have identical length and outside dimensions, but the 40-63 is a heavier case version of the 40-70. Too bad they're $4.50 each tho, I thought 45-120 brass was expensive at $2 each!! :o
