Well, this is the year that I'm finally making my long-awaited trip to Quebec for caribou. I've changed my mind at least a dozen times regarding which rifles to take, but I think that I'm settled on my Buffalo Classic for one of them. It shoots the Hornady Leverevolution ammo very well, and with the Willliams peep sight I'm all set out to about 200 yards...I think. The front sight is the stock globe sight, and I'm using the bead and post insert. This works well for me at the range, but under varying (read lousy) lighting conditions I wonder if I would be better off using a non-hooded fibre optic type sight. The idea doesn't really appeal to me, but I'd welcome any comments.
My other concern is installing sling swivels. Again, I don't like the idea of them on this gun, but a hunting rifle without at least a strap for carrying seems like a really dumb idea. I'm toying with the idea of a standard stud in the buttstock, and a barrel-band type at the front. Will carrying the rifle this way result in too much strain on the barrel/receiver lock-up? For that matter, any type of sling I mount will strain the lock-up, but the barrel-band, being further away from the receiver, would seem to have more leverage. Or am I being paranoid?
Any thoughts on these issues, or any others regarding the BC as a hunter rather than a range rifle. would be appreciated.
