Marlin 981T

Got a little extra cash laying around and I'm thinking about another .22. I got a 10/22 target that's too heavy and nice to hunt with and a savage beater behind my seat. Looking at a Marlin 981T for a good small game hunting rifle. I got a 3-9x40 for it. Anybody got anything to say about em? Are they accurate? Whats that synthetic stock like? Ill probably get it though walmart for 140ish. Thanks

I had a 981T for a few years and found it to be acceptable as far as accuracy and did real well with it on squirrels and targets.  Actually shoots pretty good once you get used to the T-900 trigger system.  It's a little on the stiff side but not as bad as some of the trigger pulls on guns today.  The stock doesn't feel too bad and you don't have to worry about scratching it up.  Not a bad rifle for the cost.  I sold mine and went with the NEF Sportster singer shot which was cheaper, had a better trigger pull out of the box and was a tad more accurate.  Hope that helps you.

I have a 981T. I like it. Pretty darn accurate and a lot of fun to shoot! Load it on Monday and shoot all week long!

My 981T shoots great. I've had good luck reducing the varmint population with the Win HP's. The CCI mini-mags seem to work pretty good for making bugholes in targets. I haven't tried sub-sonics yet but plan to soon.

Mine gun is pimped out for a back 40 plinker. A modified, floated walnut stock from a Model 881 (I believe), RB trigger, and a BKL scope mount balancing a 4-12X40 AO fire extinguisher on top. My sweet wife thinks there's something fundamentally wrong with turning a $140 gun into a $400 blingster!
