Bargara barrel arrives first impressions
« on: July 27, 2007, 06:38:26 PM »
My new Bergara barrel arrived today. 24" blued chambered for 30-06. My pre range trip impressions are as follows.

       PROS
Hinge pin fit was nice and tight

.The chamber and bore are very smooth and well centered

machining and welds on under lug appear to be of very good quality

All screw holes were in the correct locations

crown is nicely recessed and well cut

Barrel seems to be a bit heavier than 24" TC barrels. The bergarra tube measured .720 at the muzzzle

The throat isn't a weatherby wannabe. I was able to engage the rifling with a 150grn Sierra SP at a COL of only 3.265"

                 Cons
Extreme care had to be taken installing scope mounting and under lug screws as the threads appeared to have gotten the same finish inside as the rest of the gun.

There was one scratch on the barrel just above the underlug.

The finish is NOT blued but rather some form of baked on coating with a matte finish (I actually prefer this since my frame is stainless with synthetic stocks)

All in all a pretty good deal (if it shoots good). I don't expect to get a top of the line finish when buying a bargain basement product.  I got my Leupold VXIII 3.5x10AO mounted up and Hopefully I'll get out to the range Sunday morning.

 dig the Spanish proof marks!

I look forward to the range report. Maybe you can introduce an Ozark Buck or Bear to this new toy this fall.
