Just couldn't stand it anymore
« on: June 03, 2003, 01:32:48 AM »
Bought a LEO trade in a couple of years ago (Glock 22, .40 cal full size with extra mags) I could shoot great groups and reliability was #1, but I just could not bring myself to love this auto. A few weeks ago I had the Glock 22 in hand during a possible bad stiution and found myself wishing I had picked up the 1911 instead. It was dark and yes the 22 had 11 rounds of good hot Winchester HP's, yes I was sure it would perform exactly as it should, but that desire for a 1911 type .45 put a question in my mind. (nothing happened that night) I tried for 2-3 years to make myself like this pistol. It felt un-natural in my hand, almost nasty feeling. It's cold hard "plastic" boxy feel could never replace the familiar 1911 style I'm so fond of. Also I feel that a .45 ACP is supierior to any .40, I don't care what the data says. Well the short of it is that I done some selling off and headed for another .45 ACP. I looked at the Glock (small fame) a Colt Defender, a Colt 1911M1 and a Para Ordance 12/45. All 4 were close in price but the Para won out. My buds tried for years to convince me to go Glock, I did, I couldn't like it, now I'm home. Glocks just don't fit everyone, they sure don't me. Glad y'all like them, they are fine pistols, for some of us.

:D  Greetings Rick.

Well I am a Glock owner and lover, BUT I also like the 1911 style handguns as well.  The only trouble is that I have had more problems with the 1911 style than any other handgun.  Had a new one once that was new out of the box had a slide safety go flying off during a IPSC match during the last stage.  Yes the Glocks have that boxie feeling.

I currently carry a G27 and it shoots very well, I took second at the last IDPA match with it in stock service pistol.  But I like the .45 acp and have decided after a side by side comparing that I like the G36 much better for fit and feel, I know it's a 6+1 or with the extention 7+1, well so is a Kimber CDP.  I don't carry full size because of carrying concealed and I don't want the gun to print and yell to everyone.

I haven't decided yet wether to sell off the G27 or trade it in yet.  I get less for it if I trade.  The guy last night told me that for even a Glock that is only 7 months old I loose quite a bit towards trading in, he offered $349.00 for my G27 with 4 mags, towards trading in for the NIB G36 that only comes with two mags.  So I just may keep the G27 for those times ankle carry or just give it to my wife for her very own.

You got to carry what your comfortable with and if that is a 1911 style go for it  8)

You gotta love the mdl 36! I have a Glock Clip on mine and often carry it IWB without a holster. For the times I carry in a Holster the clip doesn't get in the way.
Stay Safe,

Good Luck with the Para.. I had a Para Carry. Terrible experience. But  it seems that I was having a bad run.. Things are on track now and I own a nice SW1911.
Hope you enjoy your Para.

Glocks are like your feet.  All they ask is that you take care of them, and they will be there for you when you need them. :D
