How to mix swaging lube?
« on: July 28, 2007, 07:05:40 AM »
I read the sticky at the top of the page and I'm waiting for my anhydrous lanolin and Castor oil.  When it arrives, how do I mix it?  Does the lanolin need to be heated, or what?

DOUBLE BOILER...    Warm the lanolin over hot water and stir in the castor oil. I assume you have read things carefully enough to realize you don't have to add castor oil. Lanolin all alone is a great high pressure lube. But if you want it to flow. How much and room temps determine the "fluidity" or "plasticity" of the final product. This time of year, I would be using straight lanolin. luck.

I put 8 ozs of Lanolin in a microwave,at 20 sec intervals, until soft enough to mix. It took total 60 seconds to be soft and pliable enough to easily mix with 2 ozs of Castor oil. No trouble at all.

I have developed my own swaging lube.. I was tired of the mess from the waxy and lanoline lubes and cleaning my dies and punches after a few hundred bullets.. my lube is less messy and you use very little. 2oz. will lube up to 4,000 cores, and when you hadle the cores after appling the lube you would swear there is nothing on them. the lead bullets eject with ease and saves ware and tear on the dies.. If you would like to try a sample I will send it to you...
