Quick:  What would be the possiability of reaming a .357 to .350 Rem Mag?

I'd go with 35 Whelen, which you already have!!! ;D The 350 Rem Mag and 35 Whelen are ballistic twins pretty much, looking at Hodgdon's data, the 24" Whelen barrel equals or exceeds the 26" 350 Rem Mag data with slightly less pressure and less bolt thrust which is critical in a Handi. The only advantage the 350 Mag has over the Whelen is it's a short action round, a moot point in a Handi.

The disadvantage of using the 357mag barrel as a donor is the slower 1:18¾" twist rate, typical twist for either of the .35s is 1:16", so you may be limited to lighter bullet weights in spitzer bullets.

358 Winchester with the 180 gr Hornady SSP bullet pretty good medicine for most anything in lower 48. So is the 35 Remington and there is nothing wrong with 35 Whelen. I like the 35 caliber. They are very efficient game stoppers. I actually have built a 358 WSM wildcat in a bolt action. I have not had anything that took more than a step after being hit with it.

I have a 35 Remington Handi that's a rechambered 357Mag>Maxi, but knowing Sourdough is in Alaska,  he'd probably want all he can get out of the .35 bore. Rog, how about a 35 Whelen Impoved? That would probably be an even better choice. ;D

Quick:  The .350 is short like the .308, the .35 Whelen is 30-06 length.  The Whelen chamber is already too long for the .350.  I over looked the rate of twist for the .357, I would want to shoot 225 and 250 grain bullets.  So to answer my own question, "Not feasiable".

I'm well aware of the 350's length, I pointed that property out in my reply, I wasn't suggesting you rechamber your Whelen, just that you already have more gun in it than the 350 is capable of, specially with the 26" barrel, the 357mag barrel is only 22".

FWIW, I push the 225gr TSX to almost 2900fps in my RMEF Whelen barrel on a late model frame, that's 338 Win Mag territory!! ;D

Wtroger,
 While the 358 is an excellent cartridge, its not within a good choice to use the 180SSP bullet out of it. Even loaded down its easy to disintegrate this bullet. Its designed for pistol cal 35's. I used to use it in my 357MAXI Handi and Contender barrels. It was GREAT in the 10" contender I had but wouldn't exit a deer, shot thru the chest from the 21" barrel of my handi @ 2100fps. I switched to the 180 Speer FP and now I get good expansion and full penetration.

If you want a good easy expanding lo recoil bullet use the 200 RN made for the 35 Rem. Or even the excellent 200SP from Hornady is a better much choice.

I have owned a rifle in 358 for almost 25years. Its one of my alltimefavorites. I have shot all kinds of bullets thru it. I now use that 200 Hornady spitzer @ 2300fps almost exclusively. If I need a bigger (heaver) bullet I step up to the Whelen and a 250 Speer spitzer.
