PSE X Force bow?
« on: July 28, 2007, 04:26:13 PM »
I am in the market for a new compound bow and had been looking at what is out there now. Looking at the Mathews Drenalin, Bowtech Guardian, and others.

While at Barnes and Noble, I saw an article about the PSE X force. I was really intrigued by what I read. Does anyone here have experience with this bow? What are your opinions of it? Thanks.

i work at a shop that sells all three.  the PSE is FAST.  it draws hard compared to the bowtech and matthews and has more hand shock and noise than the other two.

I think that the guardian is one of the best rounded bows ever made but if you want a lot of speed go with the pse.  overall i find the matthews pretty unimpressive.

I looked at it long and hard and decided on the Bowtech Guardian, and so far have not been disappointed.  The power is there, but to harness it may be another matter.  I was able to shoot it adequately, but its smoothness and valley were not to my liking.  Go shoot one and find out for yourself.  There is nothing else like it, and probably worth having, but I couldn't afford two "thousand dollar bows" which is about what they'll run once decked out with goodies.  My bowtech is much more smooth and incredibly silent.  Proficiency came fast, and almost feels like I'm cheating.  Its certianly, though a personal matter.

I haven't shot either one, so I don't know this from experience.  According to the X-Force challenge the PSE registered less decibles than the Bowtech Guardian and was almost the exact same as the Mattthews Drenalin.  Like I said I really don't know that was the claim though.

I'd go ahead and try out all that you are interested in and see what fits you best.  I went with the Guardian myself, this was an upgrade from a '04 Bowtech Stalker (entry level bow).  As far as speed, we chrono'ed mine once it was set up at 305 FPS @ 70 lbs and that is with my stubby arm draw of 26".  That's smokin for my draw length so I'm more than happy.

As far as the x-force challenge if you can get that type speed out of any bow once it is set up with sights, arrow rest, string leeches, etch....the proof is in the pudding when you shoot it.  As far as the decibel challenge with it...all of the bows shot Hoyt, Matthews, Bowtech, and PSE are all incredibly quiet.  With only a 2.1 decibel difference between the quietest and loudest bows tested...it's really a wash -- 2 decibels is a minimal difference and less than one tenth of a decibel is EXTREMELY minimal.

If you find a deal on one of the four bows tested and it fits you well then take it, I don't think you would lose with any of these bows as long as they shoot well for you personally.  That said I'd always try the bow before buying.

After seeing this X Force Challenge I have to shoot all three to see which new bow I am going to buy.

This challenge really peaked my curiosity, so I did some extra digging to compare specs etc....  I'll say again though you should try them all out an go with the bow that fits you best -- everything I say is just my thoughts and impressions.

In looking at the specs and talking to some folks I found out that the Matthews has an 80% let-off, same as the Bowtech -- not exactly sure where the Hoyt falls but I want to say it comes in at 75%.  The PSE only has a 70% let-off, which shows the sacrifice for the added speed.  Not saying that it's bad...BUT it does affect comfort level when shooting the bow.  If you draw and have to hold very long before the shot would you rather be holding 14lbs or 21lbs?  (I believe that's the difference between the 80% and 70% let-offs at 70lbs.)  Which means the bow with a 70% let-off will be harder to hold on full draw and will be less forgiving if you relax any on your draw.  That doesn't make the bow a bad choice but it is a critical item to think about when looking at different bows.  For me with my back and shoulders 70lbs with an 80% let-off is my comfortable max, but that's just me.  If you can comfortably handle the extra weight then you could really take advantage of that added speed.

That is great information, and something I had not thought about, BUT did notice the owner of the company PSE, when drawing back seemed a bit challenged, which seem to reflect to me, the hard draw of the PSE X Force bow.  I know for myself I would much rather have a bow that is 80% let off.

I got to shoot a Bowtech Guardian just a bit ago, and I must say that I was pleased... very pleased indeed.  But I still need to shoot the Mathews Drenalin to compare side by side.

The PSE has a 6 in. brace height and only 70% let off. Sounds pretty darn hard to handle to me.
