cleaning full-stock/long rifles

What is the common procedure?Do you dissassemble a long rifle or clean it with the wood on?I only have used hooked breech rifles of the percussion nature, please explain..MISSEDSHOT.....

I have 2 custom made flintlocks...I just put a tooth pick in the touch hole, pour some water down the barrel, put my thumb over the muzzle and tilt it back and forth, pour the water out, run a couple of patches down the bore, run a couple of alcohol patches down to help dry the water...Then I run one patch with WD-40 down, followed by a patch oiled with your favorite gun oil and I'm done.

I usually only take my full stock rifle apart after hunting season to give it a good cleaning and then back on the wall she goes. Normally i just pull the lock and clean it, wipe the outside of the barrel clean with Windex and then swab the barrel clean with windex and then lightly oil it after its been dried. Use Q tips to get all the hard to reach areas that may have got a little skim of smoke.
