Is this one big enough?
« on: June 03, 2003, 05:42:29 AM »
On one of the posters on another shooting forum has been developing a new big bore round, and finally put some lead down range.  The round is called the 600 Overkill.  The case was developed by taking the 585 Nyati case, which started as the 577 NE case, adding a belt, and blowing it out nearly straight to take the 600 NE bullets of .620" dia.  The design criteria was to build the largest round that could effectively be used in a hunting bolt action rifle, with a planned max performance level of 900 gr @ 2500 fps   though a more realistic hunting level of the original 600 NE 900 gr @ 1950 fps.  Here are a few pics:
600 Ok, 505 Gibbs, 500 AHR (500 Jeffrey with full dia rim, and longer neck), 470 M-bogo (416 Rigby necked up to .475")

Completed rifle with Vais muzzle break, and 3 mercury recoil reducers.

Nope, it's not big enough! Why not just go for a 1" bore, and get it over with. Or at least get a gun made to shoot a 30mm canon round.
Ballard, the great American Rifles!
