Laminated stock for 96/22M
« on: July 31, 2007, 02:16:33 AM »
Anybody know where I could get a laminated stock for my Ruger 96/22m ?
I think a Cammo laminate would improve its looks and add a little weight as well.
                              Thanks for reading this,  Jon.

jon F:  To my knowledge, there aren't any sources of aftermarket stocks for the Ruger 96 series.  A couple of people over at the rimfirecentral.com forum have made or modify stocks for the 96 with beautiful results.  I had a link to some photos of one of them but the photos are no longer coming up.  There have been others who have posted a similar question on the "ruger-other" section of that forum - you might want to check it out, as you can find a lot of good general info there about the 96 series.

Thanks for the info Pagris, I'll check that forum out. This is my first 96 and I just want it to be a little different.

jon f:  One big improvement you can have done to your Model 96 is to have Todd at TTshooter do a trigger job on it.  He worked his magic on mine and it made an impressive improvement on its shootability:

Pagris,
Once again, thanks for the info. I'm in Australia so it could be a little difficult sending parts etc.
Would you know when Ruger stopped making the 96/22 ( lr) that is. I saw a second hand one in my local gun shop today. would be great with a 17 mach2 barrel in it.
                       Regards Jon

FYI - .17Mk2 Ruger 10/22 & .17Mk2 10/22 aftermarket barrels will also fit the M96/22.
Also, .17Mk2 ammo will feed from the .22 LR magazine.

This guy does 96/22 stocks:

jon f:  The 2003 Ruger catalog lists the 96/22 LR model - the 2004 catalog does not.  As Rangr44 indicated, other rimfire barrels designed for the 10/22 and/or the 77/22 can be fitted to the 96 series and you can find info about that by doing some searching over at the Rimfire Central forum.

Check out Green mountain( http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/ ) for the 96 17M2 barrel. They have them in the closeout bin for around $65.Just have to get a heavy bolt handle and you'll be good to go.I have one of my 10 22's converted to M2.Great shooter. Also in case anyone doesn't know the 96 barrel is a drop in replacement on the 10 22.Slow
