is there any difference between the gold dot and the xtp bullets for deer sized game at 1200 fps or 1100 fps // will they expand or will they just pup through at that speed.
I am shooting a FA revolver and want to load the thing no faster than that.
thanks

On deer, the 325 and 400 Speer will expand better than the 400 XTP. The 325 will expand more than the 400 Speer. For heavy game from 400 to 2000 lbs., I prefer the 400 XTP. My .475's are a bit more accurate with the XTP also.

I put a 400 grain Speer through 5.5 feet of elk on a hunt I attended with Ken.  It expanded very little.

For deer, there really is no practical difference between the two brands or weights of bullets.   I've not recovered any of the bullets I shot at deer with my .475.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider expansion with this round, it is already "expanded" before it leaves the barrel.

Hey and thanks for the response..  I am getting a little anxious about not using cast now and cast later as well, so I am going to jsut order some faster to arrive cast in the same weight category ... whether the jacketed expand or not is probably not that big a deal, I guess, so that decision out the way and some bullets ordered up with brass... now I go to work to support this handgun habit..Damned work..
