Well guy's this is harder than I thought it would be to get adjusted to working nights. I also found out today that if things go good with these stores that there are several hundred more around the country that need done. That would mean the rest of my life. They better get more help!!!!!! My wife is pissed and does not want me working away for long periods of time. Besides they want us to start another on Monday. This company is streching us to thin now and want to start more. This is crazy. Dale

Hang with it Dale...the first couple of weeks on midnights are the hardest for you and your family.. don't worry about the other stores around the county...you can decide what's best for you and your family when the time comes..The hardest part about midnights is I always felt tired even on my days off..it seemed like i could never get enough sleep..you'll get in the groove of it and your family will learn your sleep schedule and things will work themselves out..only you and your wife can make the decision abouts whats best for your family when the time comes, but not until then so don't worry about it. just concentrate on the job at hand...........SW

Well guy's first off my heart is out to Stimpie's family and friends. If you have been following this thread you know I have been working nights remodeling the Olive Gardens in the Pittsburgh and Ohio areas. This work can only be done at night when they are closed. I hired a next door neighbor to help out at one of the stores this past week. On Tuesday night I was out unloading a truck and when I got back from unloading the truck, I started to load my truck from another job. This is when my guy's came out and said ( STERLING MY NEIGHBOR ) had fell off the scaffold. I ran in and he was in what appeared to be a seizure. From what the guys said he went into this before he fell. He started shaking and a couple guys ran toward him but he hit before they got there. He landed on concrete on his back. They said he did not hit his head to hard. He fell 4 or 5 feet onto his back. When I got there we tried to wake him up. He was snoring like he was a sleep. I told one of the guys to call 911 after 30 seconds. We spent 15 or 20 minutes trying to wake him up. He just snored. One of the guys looked into his eyes with a flash light with no response at all. It was like he was in a deep sleep and you could not wake him up. The EMS showed up and he came out of it just a little. Turns out he took a stroke and had brain surgery. They say he is now brain damaged. I feel like crap over this. This could have happened to him at any time and any where. It just had to happen while he was working for me.They have him in a drug induced comma now. He is a good guy and helps me around the house with heavy things because of my back. I am really tore up about this. Dale

Sorry to hear that Dale, but don't beat yourself up over it, stuff happens, how we deal with it is what's important, hang in there. ;)

By the way guys this whole thing is a raw deal for me. They moved me to the Ohio store and it is 96 miles one way. I told my boss this morning I can't spend this kind of money to go to work. I did the math the other day on my way in. It is 1,300 and some miles for a 7 day work week. My truck gets 12 miles to the gallon. That is 122 gallons of gas. It turns out with Turnpike tolls and gas it is real close to me spending $400.00 a week.        Dale

Get them to chip in for some gas then get a cheap room in town.  Larry

Well guy's I applied for a superintendents job for the general contractor that has the Olive Garden contracts. They do work in all 50 states and I would have to travel. They said they even landed a contract in Hawai. I told them that is the one I want. They said so do 26 other supers. LOL I should know tomorrow if I get it. I would have to be out of state for up to 8 weeks at a time and they said that they would fly me home every couple weeks.   Dale

Good luck, Dale.  Sound like a good opportunity (increased salary ?, travel).  Hawaii would be good.

I am bummed out. I did not get the job. They said things are slowing down a little and they have no place to send me at this time. They asked if I would call back in January when things will pick back up. Dale

Sorry to hear that, Dale.

It's ok to be disappointed, but not for long.  Keep you head up and eyes open for the next opportunity.  I've found that the next one will usually be better.  ;)
