If I were you, I would go with the Encore.  The Encore can handle high pressure centerfire cartridges (in case you ever want a barrel other than a muzzle loader barrel) while the Contender can't.

The Encore and Contender systems are very versatile.  You can easily swicth around barrels, stocks, grips, etc. to get a gun for any purpose you would need it for.

i would chose the g2 contender because it handles large enough cartage for anything in north America or the lower 48. the muzzle loader is a lot lighter and so is the rifle. they are both good guns i would choose it because of its weight now if i needed larger game cartage for dangerous game i would go with the encore

Choices choices. If you like them light get the G2, if you don't mind an additional pound and like them a little beefy get the encore. The encore is built/designed to withstand 300win.mag.   type cartridges, where as you will stretch the frames on contenders/G2's if you attempted to fire .308win   class cartridges. They are built/designed to fire lower pressure 45-70's.

There are a bunch of .45 Contender barrels available on the used market.  There is the ever popular 45 Colt/410 barrels in assorted lengths, I have a factory 45 Colt barrel (no 410) that is a good shooter, and there are 45 ACP barrels that show up fairly frequently.  Lets not forget the 45/70 also available for G2 and original Contender as well.  I really don't know what is out there for new barrels, but you can look that up yourself on the TC webpage.

Without a doubt the Encore over the G2. The G2 is still on a contender frame and is limited to certain pressures. Why not get a gun that can go up to the 375 H&H or 416 Rigby.

Cuz NOT EVERYONE feels they must have the biggest and baddest to do the job. For some of us adequate is just that adequate and the Contender has proven adequate on every game animal on earth all the way to the biggest.

I would say that you should handle both and select the one the feels best to you. Sometimes we fall so in love with statistics that we forget what's really important. Buy the one that YOU like.

The G2 over the Encore. The G2 is alot lighter and easier to carry around. After a long day in the woods a couple of pounds means alot for an old man like me.   ;D

I think you missed my point again Graybeard.  The Encore can go from mild to wild, I did not say everyone has to go up to a 375 H&H or a 416 Rigby, but the option is there. So don't get to excited big guy.  ;D  No where did I say anything about the biggest and baddest to do the job. They can get a 308, 30-06, 270 and other barrels that can't be used on a G2 frame, just makes more sence to me. But get what you want, I just don't like the G2 or Contenders like I use to.

I still choose the Encore over the G2, it is personal choice.   ;)
