Anschutz Silhouette Project Rifle
« on: August 03, 2007, 02:38:14 PM »
Considering building an Anschutz and would be interested in guidance. Currently shooting cowboy, contender and CZ452 Silhouette. Building an Anschutz seems reasonable; but, not sure about which is the preferred action, barrel, stock, etc.

What do you mean by "building an Anschutz"?
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy an Anschutz, then to try to build one from scratch?
Do you mean you want to try to convert your CZ into a rifle that is up to Anschutz accuracy?

An Anschutz rifle is an entire package, action, trigger and good barrels.  You would have to spend a lot of money to get your CZ to a Anzchutz 54 action & trigger smoothness and then it still wouldn't be an Anschutz.  I would recommend just saving and buy either a 17XX Anschutz or the 54.18 match and keeping the CZ for fun.  CZ's are a great starter rifle, but are not and Anschutz, nor can you make one into one.

If you want an Anschutz "build" project, get a 1712 barreled action from Champions or Neal Stepp and have Mark Pharr, Evelio, or Marvin put it into a Mark Pharr RTS stock.

You can shoot a stock 1712 for years and be happy.

At this point, I can't argue that Anschutz is great; but, this is an old thread. Since I started the thread, I added a Timney trigger and the CZ is better than I am. Also, I'm competing against more CZ's than I used to. Not seeing any  new Anschutz competitors.
