I went over to Cabela's here in St.Louis...to pick up some reloading supplies for my 30-06...Walked thru their used gun racks...and stumbled upon a 1928 made Winchester model 12 12ga. mod choked shotgun...It's about 70% wood & metal...locks up tight as a drum & cycles flawlessly...no cracks in the stock...but needing a real good cleaning this weekend...best of all...I got it for $275.00...Now to load up some of my 1x Winchester paper hulls I've been holding on to for quite a few years and maybe do a little dove hunting with it this season...Not to shabby for a great old scatter gun...

I learned to shoot shotgun with one of them. Your post makes me remember my father teaching me how to do it, and that the forend was just about to far away for me to reach. I think I need one of them now. Thanks for reminding me.

I like the smell from the old paper shells...It takes me back as well...Not to mention they have always pattered better for me than any of the plastic ones...

The grand old Winchester Model 12 has long been my personal favorite shotgun. It sounds like you got a good deal on yours. Some of the best gun deals I have ever found just showed up like that. I hope you have many enjoyable dove hunts with that classic shotgun and paper hulled shells.(I love those old paper shells!)
