Red Fox
« on: August 04, 2007, 06:51:29 PM »
I've been seeing lots of red foxs pups.I saw 7 in a 28 mile stretch on the way into town.I've been hearing from other trappers that say their fox populations are increasing. We had a real good coyote hatch also.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

     Coyotero,

Down here in Texas, I've never caught or even seen a red fox.
Friends have caught one or two in years past,
but all our fox populations are of the grey fox.
A friend up in Denver sent me a road kill red
but it only lasted a year or two then the hair fell out as he didn't tan it.
Fine looking critters reds are.

J. Von Knife   In the late 70's,early 80's I would catch between 200 and 313 fox in 5 weeks. If I didn't get wet weather and really hustled I could do it.I've never caught a grey fox.Fox now have been the exception rather than the rule.Coyotes took over.

I just started trapping a few years ago around Brady, TX on the edge of the hill country. I have caught about as many reds as greys. Seems like I call in alot more greys but my trap lines are about even. I love walking up on a big red in the trap.
