shotgun problem
« on: August 05, 2007, 10:05:41 AM »
I have a .410 that won't stay together. Sorry in advance but I don't know the correct name for this part. The part the fore end locks to the barrel on is loose in the dovetail and just falls out when you open the barrel. It looks like the previous owner had the same problem. It seems to have been brazed at one time and had the edges of the dovetail peened in. What do you guys think  should do? Rebraze it (not set up for this), peen the edges in more or just a dab of jb weld or some combination of the two. Thanks in advance for the help,
Jim

First I will have to make an assumption. You are talking about a hinge(or break action) single shot shotgun?? The part you are referring to is usually not offered as a separate part , being a component of the barrel assembly.  I have heard them called several things but forearm mounting stud is what I like. It should be secured and on a single shot gun such as described I would tighten in the dovetail and flow in low temp solder to solidify the joint. Peening and AcraGlas would likely work too but the solder is, in my opinion, preferable..
