what is happening to me?
« on: August 07, 2007, 03:07:45 PM »
I own lots of rifles and pistols. Always have bought them since I was a kid. This last year I have bought 3 lever action rifles. I bought a Marlin 336 / 30-30, a Marlin 1894 in .357 and a Hartford stainless 1892 in .357. I am using all of these with open sights and bad eyes :). I don't know what has happened, but I seem to turning into a lever action junkie. The 1892 is by far my favorite so far. Feels great in my hands. I am to the point of selling all the other rifles so I can get more lever actions. Weird huh? Sorry, I can't afford counciling and I just had to tell somebody. :)

Now I need one of these------------------

You like western movies and always wanted to be cowboy when you were a kid. Now that your grown up, love firearms and have the $$, your taking this child hood fantasy of being a cowboy one more step.... Perfectly normal. Enjoy.

I guess so. Maybe it's the open sights and the thought it might be a little more difficult. I think the main thing is the levers seem so nice to carry. Not sure, just know it's alot of fun reading about all the different cartridges and having fun reloading them. Thanks, just had to share the moment. Don

I fully agree about the carrying qualities of the Model 92.  As much as I like my W and M 94's, the Marlin 336, and others, I find the 92 fits my hand best. Since I hunt with my 92 in 44-40, I carry along a 44-40 revolver and use the same ammunition in both.  It might not be the best choice for boar in thick brush, as I use black powder loads, but it has put venison on my table just as surely as my .264 Magnum.  And as Elmer Keith used to say, you can eat all the way up to the hole.  I have seen a lot of meat thrown away when some hotshot load ran into a bone, and have seen shooters who are too afraid of the noise and recoil of their guns to practice.  I never have had to worry about that with the 44-40.

I love lever guns and the concept of having a revolver in the same caliber on my side. BFR revolvers makes this even more appealing in that they chamber them in 45-70, 444, 30-30,. Of course now with the Puma Lever available in 480 & 454, this is great stuff.

Not only do I like westerns & guns, I tend to be somewhat of a minimalist. Lever guns tend to fit that.

Gapmaster:  tain't nothin' wrong with you that I can think of, except that possibly you aren't shootin' all those lever actions as often as you would like.  I think you need more range time with those levers, especially the '92.........................

Oh yeah, the 95 is a great lever, but I don't think it's as much 'fun' as either the 92 or the Marlin 94, more recoil..

I think I would be reloading and shooting up a heck of a lot more 357s than I do now if I had one of the W92s.  JMTCW.  Mikey.

ps:  counciling never worked for me and I had to 'self-initiate' my own group therapy - the smaller the groups I got the happier I felt.  Works every time.....................

50 years ago my dad gave me my first deer rifle, a win mod 94 30-30. Since then I've bought and sold a variety of rifles but wouldn't think of selling the 94. I still go deer hunting with it every so often. More then anything it brings back memories of hunting with my dad on those cold November days.

Gap,

You need to seek help!  You need to go to a meeting. You need to admit your problem and end the denial.

I understand because I have more than one safe full of levers.  A month ago I wanted to try a BLR.  Now I have three!  7MM-08, .308 & .358.

I'm afraid this is bigger than both of us!!!!

At 51 years old I finally decided I still want to have fun while hunting and I returned to the guns of my youth.  Most of my "collection" looks like something out of a 1960s/1970s gun catalog.  Leverguns are a big part of that.  No more carbon suits, deer pee, and sitting in a tree stand all day.  If I kill something that's fine.  If not that's ok too.

The answer is simply that you've developed better taste for quality rifles as you aged.  ;D

Gap, I know the way you feel. Last year I started lurking and asking questions on leverguns.com and Paco Kelly and the boys convinced me a lever was needed in my safe. I've collected guns for years and never saw the lever itch coming my way. Oh ya... I love my new Marlin 1894c 357  The same thing on this board is getting ahold of me know with graybeard and Quick and this Handi idea's got me think'n again. ;D

This must be contagious, I've bought 5 lever guns in the last 3 - 4 months and I'm looking to buy more...I just can't stop myself. Help, anyone got one for sale?

I'm sorry to tell you it is a virus and not an addiction. Whatever you do do don't pick up any Handi rifles either. Between the leverguns and the Handi's, your safe will be overrun. I know from experience.
