Antelope round for .270?
« on: August 09, 2007, 04:32:50 PM »
I just purchased an Encore frame, and I plan on purchasing a .270 barrel for it to use on an antelope hunt this October.  I also plan on loading my own ammo for it, and I have no idea what weight or type of bullet is good for antelope.  Does anyone out there have a favorite bullet/load that they could recommend?  Even if someone can just recommend a weight to start with, that would be a tremendous help.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

The last antelope hunt I purposely loaded ammo for i used the 130 grain Hornady Interlok on top of 59.0 grains of regular cut H4831 in winchester cases. I can't see how any other load would have done a better job.

I have to second rickt300 choice.  I used that loaded on both deer and antelope.

BUT now days I would use the Hornaday 140 BT because of wind and longer range.

Antelope don't take a lot of killing.  Just work you up a good deer load and use that.  I'd start with a standard 140gr cup bullet and some 4350 or 4831.  If you have a greed for speed, go with the 130gr bullet but don't go below that.  You do not need a boutique bullet.  :D
