I'll start off with what I have...and you guys can list yours...

Right now...I have only 1 Weatherby Vanguard...It's a 30-06 Sub MOA...but I have had 1 regular black stocked 270 that I changed the stock & trigger group on...I put a Accumark stock & Timeney trigger on that shot real good...Also tried one of those SIM'S deresonators on it...and it worked as good as they said it would...

Next week ( Temperature permitting ) I'll be shooting my new Sub MOA 30-o6...along with a few other new rifles...

So...Let's see some pictures of all of those awesome groups & your rigs...

no pictures yet will post some later. i got a weatherby vanguard .30-06 with a leopuld vx-1 2x7 in talley lightweight low rings and a custom painted synthetic stock. i shot my first elk and coyote with this rifle. absoulty love these rifles. glad theres a forum now

Well I've got a .308Win Howa in a factory supplied Hogue overmolded piller bedded stock. My only complaint is that it was a nightmare mounting a scope. I used Leupold two piece STD bases and rings in gloss finish. The front had to be an offset however. The scope is a Phillpine manufactured Simmons vs the the more common Chinese manufactured (and in my opinion JUNK!) gloss Atec 2.8x10x44. Looks very sharp however I really can't use the scope on the higher magnifications due to eye relief issues. I can't move the scope rearward to make up for that as it's back as far as it will go. I guess I need to buy a different scope. Have to find one that will allow for more 'mounting travel' for the lack of a better term. I apparently haven't learned my optics mounting lesson as I'm buying another today! A .204, .223, or a .22-250. Just need to see what they have at the shop.

I have the 1500 in 308 with a Docter 3-9. I don't shoot it very often, got it last year for an elk hunt. It's bone stock and shoots the Federal hi energy 180's to moa. It has a very nice trigger, the stock is probably the weak point of this rifle. It's getting to be time to get out with the sticks and get it tuned up again!!

heres some links to my vanguard pics as there to big and i don't know how to resize. the stock i did my self. the target is the first one of the first ones i shot with this rifle it will print groups like this consistently at 100 yards

I have a walnut stocked vanguard sporter 270 wsm with a 6.5x20 vx3, I won the gun in a raffle two years ago. I already had a 7mm mag that i use for my deer gun so i decided to make the wsm my big bore groundhog gun, I started with one box of factory loads and got about 2 inch groups at 100 yards. I full floated the barrel and loaded up some 110 gr v-max loads with h4350 and it cut holes with the first load i tried, I can shoot the gun great off the bench, but the trigger has proved to be terrible when trying to make 300 yard shots on groundhogs, i got it lighted up some but it still has alot of creep. the next step is a timney trigger and a fiberglass bed job. then it should be a fine varmint gun.

Well I'm a big fan of these rifles for sure. Vanguard or Howa. I presently have a Vanguard with the old style stock (not California Monte Carlo) in 30-06. Picked it up during a Wally World close-out sale in my area a few years back for $276 OTD. It is a tack driver and really likes the Federal Premium ammo loaded up with the Nosler BT bullet. It also like just about any 150 gr. bullet load but none print as tight of groups as the 165 BT's.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Vangaurd or Howa 1500 in any caliber that would suit my ~~needs~~ wants at the moment......they tend to change pretty regularly, if ya know what I mean.

Howa 1500 in .338 Winnie. Watched it on a used rack at Gander Mountain for more than 6 months. Finally couldn't walk away when it was marked down to $199. Came with a Tupperware stock. I've since given it a Boyds JRS laminated stock (more weight/better stability) and it wears a Leupold M8-4X. I also replaced the Boyd's buttpad with an aftermarket "Sorbothane" (sp?) pad. The rifle is now a pussycat (relatively speaking) to shoot.

I fiddled a great deal with the rifle before I discovered that this rifle/chambering strongly prefers to be loaded up near max. Groups shrunk to about an inch @100 yds with 250 gr. Hornadys. Does well with 250 gr. Nosler PTs too. My attempts at "underloads" were pretty unsatisfying on paper.

Love the Howa action/fit/finish. Great product to price ratio.

Please don't laugh too hard, but I may chase Bambi with it in November.

I took a nice eating 90lb doe with my 338-06 A-Square and a 180 grain Accubond last season..At 3050 fps at 150 yards she flopped over and slid back down the hill she was running up..

These are excellent whitetail bullets...and hold together nicely while still expanding as they should...No meat loss at all with them...

Well add a bull barreled Hogue piller bedded overmolded stocked Howa chambered in .204 Ruger to the list. Just bought'er today. Got's two now, I guess I'll work on #3.

Thanks for the field report, Mac. I've strongly suspected that the typical .338 round (even the Winnie version) is less likely to create excessive bloodshot meat than many more traditional deer loads (the 130 gr. .270 and 150 gr. .30-06 come to mind). I'm assuming that broadside shots on deer won't provide enough resistance to make most .338 bullets open up very violently. May even have the opposite problem-expecially with the 250 grainers. Guess time will tell, huh!

Your pictures were instructive. I've long admired the .338/06.

I've got a beautiful Vanguard in 300 Weatherby Mag. It has beautiful wood, with rosewood forend tip. I mounted a 4.5-14 Nikon on her and can really reach out and touch them. I haven't killed any game with it yet. It is a little heavy for the mountains, and a little much for whitetails, but I will get around to taking her out someday. I am a little technically challenged, so no pics, sorry

I recently purchased my first Vanguard It is the black & stainless version and in .270 Win. I will be topping it off with a Bushnell Elite 3200 as soon as I can locate a good set of bases and rings.

I have had a H_LL of a time finding Leupold bases that will fit the Vanguard. Are their bases and rings that are comparable to the Leupold in terms of quality?

Yup...That's what it is...

A-Square decided a while back to go and make it a legitimate SAAMI cartridge... Weatherby was selling it in their Mark IV Accugaurd...but isn't any more...They still make ammo for it...as does A-Square and a few others...My rifle is in a rebored & rechambered 26" NEF Handi...that Wayne York made for me a couple seasons back...It's a tack driver..

Most folks like the 200 grain bullets and up...but they are missing out on a really great whitetail loads by doing so...For me...there really isn't a need to go much heavier for deer...maybe using the very good 200 grain Silver Ballistic Tip...but...any heavier is a waste unless your hunting elk as well...Then I would opt for the 210 grain Nosler Partition...

Mines a Vanguard in 22-250. It sits in a Boyds stock bedded in with a Timney trigger. Its got a Simmons WTC scope on it.

Got a Vanguard in blue with black synthetic. Chambered in 30-06. Leupold VX I 3=9 x 40.

Picked up the gun at WalMart for $250.00 on clearance, put that much more in the scope and rings........

I Love my Vanguard.

It's a re bored/re chambered NEF 25-06...It is a superbly done cut rifled barrel with a 9-1/2 twist...

He also did another one for me out of a 25-06...He made a super 26" 270 Winchester for me...

I'm picking up another 25-06 NEF this weekend...I'll shoot as is for a little while..but it is destined to become something else as well...I haven't decided yet...I might try a 25 Gibbs...and load forAckley Improved velocities..because it is a Handi rifle...Have it re bored it to 30-06 or or the Gibbs...or go even larger than the 338 cal...and do a 375/06 Improved...I'm still mulling things over...

Weatherby Vanguard Synthetic Stainless in .243 WIN with Leupold VX1 3-9x40 shooting 58gr Hornady V-Max over 42 grains of AR2208.
Also am in the midst of working up a load of 95gr Hornady SST's for the larger stuff. Heres my gun and my group after bedding the action, having a smith lighten and smooth my trigger and replacing the pressure point under the barrel. 3 round group at 100 metres is 15mm.

Sorry i didn't reply sooner. Got mine a couple of years ago. Walked in one day, it was sitting there with a big sticker on it....... on 06 and a 270.... should have bought both. I could have easily sold one, to pay for the other.....
