Woodchuck hunting
« on: June 04, 2003, 07:03:15 AM »
I'm new to hunting chucks and wondered if anyone has any special techniques they use to get these buggars to come out of their holes.  I sit downwind and out of sight, but it seems to take forever to come out once they have seen me.  Thanks!

I normaly watch them for a little while and get what they like to do. then I will come out about 1/2 hour before they do. I never really get them to come out a 2 nd time that day so you need to make your shot count. then move to another field

In my experience if you dont spook them to bad they will usually come back out. But if you miss a shot definataly mve to the next hole. Have fun!!!

Chucks are best hunted on cloudy overcast days. On hot sunny days the morning and evenings are best.  Chucks are curious animals and will pop up
if you wistle. I use an old shell caseing for whisteling.  If they are hunted much in your area, they smarten up and head for their hole at the sight of man.  Once you are spotted , you need to move to some cover, wait 10 minutes and then whistle.
