Hammer problem, HELP!
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:17:26 PM »
My friend had me install a trapper spring kit in his contender frame and adjust the over travel and trigger pull, He was having an occasional problem with the gun not cocking properly prior to the spring kit installation. The kit seemed to fix the problem for awhile but now it has returned with a vengeance! Here is what's happening: the action will cock when you pull up on the trigger guard, but the hammer will not lock back. I removed the spring kit but the problem remains. I know how to take these things apart and put them back together again but I don't know much else about this type of action. I've installed spring kits in 4 of my contenders without incident. Does anybody know what part might me worn out or what I might be able to do to correct this problem? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  ???

Try backing the screw that limits the forward travel of the trigger out a few turns.

I backed both trigger adjustment screws off. The hammer still wont engage. :(

Had a similiar problem earlier this year, check the screw that holds the interlock (Some call it butterfly) in place, it may have backed out.  This was my problem, as soon as I tighten it up, problem gone.

You can also check the trigger engagement screw.  If set with too little engagement, the trigger could be releasing when closing the action.
