Smokeless SMI arrived!!
« on: August 14, 2007, 07:16:21 AM »
Well my wifes new SMI arrived a short while back.  Had it built off a single shot H&R .410.  Was very pleased with its looks and the way it felt, everything operates smoothly.

Shot it once, but had the wrong sabot/bullet combo, so no luck.  I got a new combination, thats supposed to work really well, I will report when I actually get somewhere with it.

It will be nice to have us both shooting smokeless and not worry about the clean up issue if I don't want too.

Shot the SMI today and liked the results.  Didn't have much time so I only put a few rounds down range at 50 yards.  Was using 4198, and a .458 250 grain barnes bullet and harvester sabot.

I believe Busta was the member that had problems with the SMI barrel he purchased and had to return it.  No such problems here.  I am very pleased so far.  When I ordered this gun back in March, a few people wanted me to post on how it turned out, so I am just keeping you updated.

Thanks Elkstalker it is always good to here from a smokeless shooter. Keep us posted on how that SMI barrel is doing.
I am also a smokeless shooter, a Savage. Have been thinking about getting an SMI barrel in 45 cal.

Wife shot the gun yesterday.  We got it sighted in for deer season.   Shot pretty well, she could keep it on a 5-6" target at 100 yards.  You gotta remember, we live in NE, so no powered scopes, she uses a red dot.  At 100 yards this is more than acceptable for a non-powered scope.

She said it was OK, but she wasn't too fond of it.  Personally I think it is a new gun and she really likes her old smoker, cuz she has used it and knows it.  Once she kills a few deer with it I am sure she will come around.
