Quail Roadside survey for this year...??
« on: August 15, 2007, 05:05:44 AM »
Has anyone heard what the counts are this year??     I know the mail carriers do a Quail survey each year for the Texas parks dept....and get an average number of "sighted" quail per mile..........with all the rain I was hoping for good news........last year was so hot and so dry...the quail in South Texas were almost non existent........two years earlier...you could not sling a dead cat without flushing a covey........feast or famine I guess....

I just did a little search of TPWD's website.  The information might all be old.  For what it's worth here's on webpage.  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/planning/quail_forecast/2007/

Quail number , per the roadside survey, are up across the state.......with the mention on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, that the numbers are most likely conservative......because the cover is SO thick.....great visibility was not possible.    Sounds pretty good.
