I loaded up some 405 grain 'Cowboy' cast bullets(cheap) with a low end(17000 C.U.P.) trapdoor load of IMR 3031. It took about 6 shots to get centered up at 50 yards and then I went to the 100 yard range to shoot for group. The gun, in spite of the fact that I used a low end load, was a bit hard to handle and I got a couple of 'surprises' including a fat lip because of the set trigger. The best I could do was about 8 MOA even though the sight picture was perfect with my old eyes. Disappointing for sure but I think the bullets are at least part of the problem. I need to find a source of better (and lighter) cast bullets locally. Also I wonder about 3031 for the 405 gr bullet even though it is a 'book' load-- I had never used it before. I have been reading about paper patching and may try this but I am concerned about gas cutting with smokeless powder. Any advise would be appreciated.
Not much of a report but I could post a picture of my fat lip to make it more exciting--------------------naw, I am ugly enough at the best of times.
