Whats all the Torque about?
« on: August 18, 2007, 02:41:51 AM »
Hey all,

My Marlin 925 shoots 7 shot groups inside an inch off a bench with PMC super Zapper.
Today I pulled the action from the stock and gave it a good clean. Placed it all back together, made sure the action was rearward in the stock and tightened the screws. I then went bush to give it a try.

Groups were all over the place. I played around and most 3 shot groups were about 1.5-2.0 inches!!!!!
Once again loosened the screws, made sure the action was rearward and then made the front screw tight and the rear one just firm.
Now she's back to shooting one hole groups of 6.
Photo's show the before and after effects of correct application of torque. I had never experienced it til now.

Does anyone have any torque figures that are more exact than my "firm"and "tight"?

cheers!

Matt

I think you just needed to have fired enough rounds to get your accuracy back. cause if there's one thing that'll wreak havoc on a .22's accuracy that's  a through cleanin. I almost NEVER clean the bore on my .22's

Could be it needed breaking in again after the cleaning but I think he may have something on the torque angle too as too tight or too loose may affect groups depending how the metal sets in the stock.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
