Has anyone here hunted predators with a .357 mag?

The price of getting a new rifle and scope is frustrating me.  I'm thinking about trading my Mark III 22-45 with some cash to get a Blackhawk.  Tell me about any experiences you've had with the .357 on coyotes.

I want the 'hawk to double as a home defense gun, so I'm wondering if the 4 5/8" barrel will be adequate at longer ranges.  I had a GP100 with iron iron sights and could hit a coyote boiler-room sized target pretty easily at 50 yards, but it had a 6" barrel.  I thought about red dot sights for when I hunt, but don't know if the blackhawk comes drilled and tapped.

A snub nose revolver is as accurate at 50 yards as a six inch revolver. It is the length of barrel that affects the "movement" of the shooter that causes one to be able to hit with a longer barrel. A ransom rest will prove this, where human error is almost eliminated.

A 4 5/8 Blackhawk 357 magnum would serve you extremely well for predators. Like Dee said, the barrel length has nothing to do with the potential accuracy. It's just about how well you can shoot the shorter barrels. The 4 5/8 Rugers have very good sight pictures, and feel very good in the hand making them a natural for actual field shooting.

Get that gun! I guarantee you'll be thrilled with it!

  Well not really hunted ,more like a target of opportunity,missed a 175-200 yd shot at a coyote while out bird hunting.I did not have a rifle,only 20 ga and my ruger 357 sec six, took the shot with the ruger.I aimed about two  feet above his back. figgered what the heck it's only a coyote, of course I missed!
