Yet another SCOPE question.....
« on: August 19, 2007, 12:36:47 PM »
PENTAX Scopes. Any one have any? What do you think of them?

 Specifically, a GAMESEEKER 4X32 W/Precision Plex reticule.
http://www.swfa.com/pc-7351-887-pentax-4x32-gameseeker-rifle-scope.aspx

I cannot seem to find any info on how the Precision Plex reticule works or is setup to work... the web site for PENTAX leaves something to be desired...  :o

It LOOKS good and the price is attractive enough @ under $90.

I looked thru one at Sportsman's Warehouse, looked nice in the store, but the large ocular bell/power ring and 3"- ~3.5" eye relief  was somewhat of a turn off, but the price is sure right and if the ranging reticle can be figured out, it would be great.

But I'm real tempted to order another of the Nikon shotgun scopes tho!! I did order another 2-7x32 Legend, their eye relief is great at around 4" even tho they state it as 3.5" on the Bushnell site, and the smaller power ring and ocular bell make it easier to mount, closer to that of the Leupolds.

Pentax scopes are quite good for the money, they are very clear and I believe they have a good warranty. We started selling them in the gun shop I worked in about '95or'96. the first year out the had trouble with the internal finish that they fixed that real quick. I sold I guess 30-35 varies models. As stand alone or on package sales. the owner let me put one on his knight ml , likes it so much  one went to South Africa on a 375 H&H. Th precision plex is a way to us hold over repeatedly once you are zeroed  mostly set up fro the 2600 2900 mv range but  you need the balictic chart for th round you want to shoot. you'll need to spend some time on the rane to wotk out what mark you nned for what range Did not mean to threaten you with a good time .

Foggy,
Thanks for the tips on the Precision Plex.... I hope I can find something to reference. i would have though it would have been on there site...not!  Roger that, on the shoot and see idea!! ::) ;) No one around here carries them.

 Tim,
I bought one of those Nikon 2X7X32 Shotgun scopes!!  It is pretty nice.
Its not yet mounted.... I have three barrels and one 50cal MZL to scope and would like to try a couple other brands besides Leupold. Almost said, fudge it and ordered a fixed 2.5X20 Leupold and I noticed this Pentax for 1/3 the cost! LOOKs nice... WAS thinking about putting it on the 500...but the short eye relief has me a bit worried. I didn't notice what it was before you said something.

Guess I'm gonna do a little scope roulette,  ;D and move things around.

I found them when searching as well... They show the Ballistic plex, not Precision plex..Unless they work the same..didn't think of that till I was typing this....

Does seem odd that there is nothing out there on this...HOPEFULLY there will be in the box... I ordered it last night! ::) ;D

I'll let y'all know once I find out!!

I received this scope today.

I have to say, I REALLY like this scope!! VERY sharp and clear optics, no cheap scope "halo" full edge to edge visibility. The reticule is very crisp and the adjustments can be done with your fingers and are VERY repeatable!!! Overall a VERY nice scope!!

I even like it more than the Nikon I bought a couple weeks back!!

Just to prove how much I like this scope, I mounted it on my Maxi. as many of you know, that caliber is my baby.

Only problem...NO INSTRUCTIONS on how the Precision Plex works!!! >:( >:( >:( How can they do this...it completely BAFFELS me!!!

If anyone can help, I sure would appreciate it!!

As does GBO sponsor SWFA! Not only do they have good prices, they help support GBO,  buying from our sponsors helps keep this forum here for us to enjoy. ;)

THANKS TIM!!

Thats what I needed!! I'll post up a summary here for any and all who also wondered...

Penxax sent a drawing that shows a 3 inch drop (1.5 moa) for 200 yds, 13.5 inch (4.5 moa) for 300, 30 inch (7.5 moa) for 400, and 55 inch (11 moa) for 500
The horizontal length of the stadia equates to 36" at each of the above yardages

Now I just need to look and see how colse it comes to my Maxi. (WAY off I'm gonna guess ::))
