Artistic Cruelty to Goldfish: It's OK
« on: June 05, 2003, 06:20:38 AM »
Has anyone seen the article & picture of the Danish Art Museum display of goldfish in blenders (May 19, 2003, Yahoo News).  The public could turn on blenders and blend the fish.  The musuem director was originally charged with cruelty to animals, but the charges were dropped after a technician testified that the fish did not suffer due to the blenders high speed.  The artist stated his exhibit was to "place people before a dilemma", to choose between life and death.

I did not hear a peep from the Humane Society or PETA (or any other folks like this) on this issue.  Killing is OK if it's for "Arts sake".  Maybe we should remarket hunting as the "Art of Historical Neolithic Caloric Procurement".  We can start a society "Artistic and Historical Life or Death Life Style Dilemmas: How to artistically process hoofed species".  Maybe this would gain more acceptance for hunting in the future with the media and animal rights groups. 8)
