Ruger #1 25-06
« on: August 22, 2007, 07:28:54 AM »
Its Christmas in July.  My new #1 in 25-06 arrives tomorrow.  My 1st #1.  I have always wanted one and finally saved up enough to buy one.  New Nikon Monarch 3-9 all ready to mount.  Any recommendations on ammo manufacturer and weight?  I'll start with whatever I can get just to break it in.
Thanks for any input.

That sounds like a sweet rifle/scope combo.
Be prepared, That probably won't be your only No.1 for long!

NH REBLE
My Ruger#1 in 25-06 is the best factory shooting rifle I ever owned. Not only that I bought it used with a buggered up forearm and the bore has seen better days. The rifle is 1982 vintage.

After I did considerable repairs and tuning I developed a load with 100gr TSX bullets and Reloder22 with a velocity of 3420 MV shooting 3 shot groups under
1/4".  The 100gr TSX bullets work with devastating finality.

I got three other Rugers 1's and a #3 all are very accurate.

I installed a Moulds speed lock hammer and tuned the trigger to 28oz.
You got to love your new 25-06.

Make room in your gun cabinet. It won't be too long and it will have a friend. Or two.

Dougk..

Here is my 25-06. Note the special Weaver Bases and Burris signature rings with inserts. This rifle was made beween 1978 and 1982. The Weaver bases will reduce the weight nearly a pound and brings the scope back for better eye relieve. The recoil pad is a Pachmyer Decellerator. The scope is a 3200 Bushnell 3-9

Fred, tell us more about those rings.  That looks like it addresses the one thing I thought needed to be better on my #1's.

I had a No. 1B that was a sweet shooter.  Sold it to my best friend who wanted it as a present for his youngest son.  I miss it a lot.  Too bad, it was stolen from his son in a house break-in about a year after I sold it to him.

My next one was a 1A in .243, which was not as accurate as the .25-06, but I loved to hunt with it because it was short and handy.  The RSI I want now would be even better in that regard.

Got to love those #1's!!!

Rebel,
Happy New Year! I have a stainless laminate #1 in 7stw that I like a lot. I'm sure you will enjoy your 25-06. If you get around to reloading try the Nosler 120gr partition, Fed 210M and IMR4350. This is a tack driver out of my 25-06 Sako and Encore and is an excellent round for deer and antelope.

I'm toying with a #1 in .25-06 now.  It's used but in practically new condition.  stainless/laminate with a 3-x Burris for around $650 I think it was.  Not big on the ss/lam models or the chambering either really but the price for the pkg has my interest.
I will say buying one #1 WILL lead to more.  Just brought home the forth #1 here.  There will be more.

To ba ur only putting a 3x9 on it what a waste of a great caliber. I have one with a 6.5x20x50 leupold on mine and i get one hole grps with it i shoot 52.0 grs imr 4350 with 100 gr nosler b.t's. I learned yrs ago from a benchrest shooter that the better u c ur target the easier it is to hit it where u want.
