This is a discussion forum NOT live chat. Don't expect instant gratification. Folks will come along in time and reply. Just cool your jets and wait. You're not leaving for Africa tomorrow are you?

I'd be interested to hear anyone that has used these on African game.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Yeah when I made that post I really looked only at the times and not dates. I noticed after the fact it had been awhile. I'd have thought JJ and Gemsbok would both have commented by now. Since I haven't a clue and I suspect neither do folks who have never been or only been on a hunt and nothing more wouldn't either the field for who can help is kinda limited really.

I have a 12 guage Ithaca deerslayer with a rifled barrel. I would never mistake that for a serious hunting rifle that I would base my whole trip half way around the world on. For the cost of the trip, the length of the flight and the anticipation of the adventure, a slug shooting rifle would be setting the foundation for a real catastrophic experience.

It's the plains game equivalent of the 45/70 for Dangerous game. Yeah it will kill DG, Yeah it has killed DG, but are you willing to wait for only the perfect situation, after spending a fortune and waiting in anxious anticipation for the events?

This is not fishing where we try to catch and release the biggest fish on the minimal equipment possible.

Yeah it will kill anything alive, if that's the question? No it's not at all even a remotely prudent choice with the other options available. Heck it's not even the prudent choice in the USA for deer unless it's the only option  available! Now with that said, your more then welcome to hunt with me and bring it with you to hunt with. I don't care what anyone brings, you can come with an bring a spear for all I care. It's your money and your hunt. You deserve to make it what ever you want it to be within the law.

These are truly statements I can applaud.  I get sick of reading promotional material from safari operators who seem to want to dictate what a client brings on a hunt.  In fact, on one web site, it said the PH didn't want hunters to use all copper bullets (i.e., Barnes).  A safari is something I go on to walk a lot, hunt a lot, try a favorite gun and a load I've developed and not have stupid and unreasonable rules laid down by the one I'm paying a lot of money to who knows less about firearms, bullets and ballistics than I do.

As for comments on slug guns, I would say they should work as well within 50 yards as the handguns I use.  A slug gun would be only something I would use if I had no other choice though.  With airline weight restrictions on ammo, you wouldn't get to take many cartridges with you.  Also, if there was a problem with your luggage, you might have difficulty finding your favorite 12 gauge slug loads in Africa.

You say the slug gun these slug loads are made for isn't available yet so I presume these aren't loads I could shoot in my Mossberg 500.

I would be interested in knowing more about the slug gun and especially about 100 yard accuracy.
