Wow, the Martinis really are coming out of the woodwork.
You seem to have a bit of an interest in high powered .22 cal rounds.
I'm guessing you use QR mounts on those.
Exactly how short is that bbl on the Mashburn Bee?

As you can below I like Martini Cadets.  The top rifle in the group pic is my wildcat I call the 20 Raven, sorta a rimmed & blown VarTarg.  The middle rifle is a 17 Ackley Bee and bottom is a 218 Bee.  The last pic is my 35/30-30 with octagon barrel w/tang sight and detachable scope mount

Donford, I have a phobia.  I absolutely dislike the hook treatment on the end your levers.  In order for me to over come this irrational feeling send me your guns and after 30 or 40 years of shooting therapy with them I should be able overcome my phobia...you are willing to do the humanitarian thing aren't you. :)

Kombi, the Mashburn is 17" and the others have target blocks that I use either 10x junior targetspot or a 15x unertl ultra varmint scope.

Remington Rolling Block 50/70 cal. 35" barrel.  Rear sight adjusts to 1000 yds.
Have only shot it to 600 but at that distance sights are right on.  450 gr. lyman
515141 cast and 32 grs. 4198 for 1200 fps. Fun gun to shoot.

Kombi1976, Just saw your question.  Target blocks are the bases that target scopes clamp onto.  Target scope settings can be recorded for each rifle and scopes moved from one rifle to another.
Savage 99, Neat rifle and picture.  Do you make cases from 30-30s or use .225 Win.  I loaned my case forming dies to a shooter in Calif. and never got them back then found .225 worked fine and a lot less trouble.

Curt,

What a shame it is that the woodchucks are gone.   We used to drive from central CT to the eastern border in New York state and hunt on the farms there.  We always got a number of shots.

Now that the coyote is here the chucks are gone.  Its really a great loss to the rifleman-hunter.

Here is a pic of my Rolling Block Carbines. Top is a 43 Spanish I had reblued years ago. Second is an Argentine model 1879 in 43 Spanish caliber. It is just the way the Argentines sold it years ago. Third is the #5 carbine I had Lee Shaver convert from 7mm to 45-70. He did a nice job. As you can see, I haven't finished the butt stock yet, still looking for a proper butt plate. It has fiber optic sights, hope to use it as my tree stand deer rifle next season.  Boomer

Here the rest of my Rolling Block collection. First is an 1879 Argentine rifle in 43 Spanish. Purchased back in the 1960s, wish I had bought a hundred of them. But back then, $25.00 was a lot of money. As you can see, my son decorated it with a leather thong, and crow feathers. Second is #5 rifle in 7mm. Has a good bore, but haven't shot it much as the trigger pull is terrible. Boomer

My final two Rolling Blocks, would be called my shooters. First is a #5 converted to 45-70 by a local gunsmith Jim Thompson in Topeka, Kansas. He did a great job, sure sorry he retired. My son has shot several deer with it. I have a hard time with open sights, so this last RB is my hunting rifle. It is a #5 converted to 45-70. I bought it off one of the gun auction sights from a gunsmith in Hawaii. Jim scoped it for me. Have taken at least one deer with it the last five seasons. I just love shooting these old single shots!!!   Boomer

Finally finished my Rolling Block Carbine. Originally it was a #5 Carbine in 7mm. As the bore was very bad, had it rebarreled in 45-70. Came out very nice, not perfect, but nice. The wood came from one of the advertisers here on Graybeard. Used 4 coats of Birchwood Casey stock finish on it. Has fiber optic sights. Should make a good tree stand rifle.  Boomer

KB, that is quite frankly one of the most lovely rifles I've ever seen.
I would probably have stuck with 7x57 but the stock on that looks like crushed ice swirling around in single malt whiskey.
The bluing is also wonderful.
An excellent piece and one to be proud of.
Makes my little Martinis seem very pedestrian.  :-[

Here are 3 rifles that I recently finished building. They were all built on single shot break barrel shotguns and all of them have lined barrels , ( rifle barrels that have been lathe turned to a dimension to fit inside of the shotguns chamber and bore and epoxy glued in permanently.)
The first pic is now a 7 X 57 R converted from a Remington / Baikal  SPR 100  12 ga. it now has a 20" barrel and weighs 8 1/2 lbs w/ scope. This gun shoots little bitty 1 hole groups @ 100 yards.
I built it for a gift for one of my huntin buddies and he will get it this weekend.
The second pic is now a 44 special converted from a M 48 H&R  20 ga. It now has a 19" barrel and a full length forend I made fraom wild black cherry wood and whittled down to fit. As of now it has no sights or scope, it has been drilled and tapped for a scope base plus has the dovetail cuts for front and rear sights and has a Weaver Type mount milled into the barrel for a small red dot. I built this one for myself , its # 3 of three I have built in 44 spl. I gave the other two to friends already, These are just sweet for close in deer hunting.
The third pic is now a 30-30 converted from a M 9478 Savage 20 ga. It now has a 18" barrel and has the scope mount milled into the barrel top, due to the exposed hammer this will probably wear a 2 X red dot type scope. This gun is owned by one of the two sons of the friend getting the 7 X 57 R rifle, his other son has the first 44 spl. rifle I built last year now the other son ( 38 yrs. old ) will have this one.

All of us own many fine rifles but after making the first one in 44 spl. and we took to deer with it everybody wants me to make one for them now.

I don't know why I am unable to post the pictures ?   I have tried to modify the post 3 times and add the pics and it aint happinen ?  I have a dial up internet connection and when I post pics it usually takes a couple of minutes before it shows up, this time I have over a hour waiting time and no pics ?   ???
Sorry I will try one more time .       Jed

Well I tried again and after waiting 15 to 20 minutes I got a message that the file was to big.
There were only 3 pics ? it must be they are not sized properly because when I  click on the one that showed up it is so big you have to move around to veiw it .  I am pretty lame when it comes to computers
and how to work with them. I have posted several pics before in the same manner as this and they have always showed up OK ?
The rifle that you can see is the 7 X 57 R that was a 12 ga. before, the barrel profile is the standard shotgum barrel unmodified. It does weigh 8 1/2 lbs. w/ scope but feels nicely balanced when you put it to your shoulder.  I have built 7 rifles this way, ( a liner barrel within a barrel ) most I have left to the origanal barrel contour because you don't have to reblue / parkerize the barrel and the foreends dont need to be modified. I did a 270 cal. rimmed wildcat on the 7 X57 R casing using a 16 ga. H & R barrel and turned the shotgun barrel to a much slimmer profile before lining it with the 270 barrel and it worked well and is very accurate.

The lined barrel must make them very heavy, more like a varmint bbl.

OK,  I now have Foto-Sizer and think I have the size of my photo's reduced  ???
This is the former M 48 H&R  20 ga. that is now a 44 spl.  The forend is made from black cherry and attached to the barrel by 2 lugs that were dovetailed into the barrel and silver soldered plus a barrel band off a old Mauser .  The Burris FastFire  red dot sight works perfect on this rifle, you throw it up to your shoulder and the dot is in perfect veiw. This is to see if I can post more than 1 picture at a time, I just wis

h I could take better pics cause the rifle looks a lot better in person than it does in these photo's.

Well  .....  I screwed that up somehow ?  same picture twice ?  I dont get it   Jed

Well kombi me ole mucker  ;D the wood on your new Ruger is nothing to be sneezed at  ;D I just cannot get over that slot in the fore-end though. I much prefer a rounded tip personally.

Oh jedman, just two questions. I was looking at converting a Baikal 18 shotgun to a rifle myself. this is what the Spartan 100 is based on  ;) and could not see how the shotgun lump barrel joint could stand up to rifle pressures. On the MH18 Baikal rifle the barrel is screwed into a one piece lump/breech but on the shot gun the lump is a cradle soldered to the shotgun barrel which I did think would be strong enough. How did you do yours?

I am assuming you bushed the firing pin hole and made a smaller diameter firing pin  ;) did you bush it?

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the timber on the Ruger.
Can't complain about it, eh?  :)
But I have to say I also like the Alex Henry fore end.
Besides, the baby bonus our Federal Govt gives us for our youngest helped pay for this rifle and my son's names are.......yup, Alexander Henry!  ;D

Brithunter,  I will try and answer your questions,  I can't really comment on the difference in the way the monoblock / lug differs between the shotgun and rifle, The lugs on most of these type of break barrel guns are Keyed or fit into a recess and soldered or brazed together, most all Euro guns I have ever looked at are made that way rifles included so until I see a problem with it I am not to concerned of it failing.
I did need to modify the firing pin hole and the pin, I fired the 7 x 57 R a couple of times before modifing it and the primer metal was flowing into the hole in the standing breech and it made the action hard to open .  The way I fixed it was I dissasembled the action and gave it to a friend that works in a die shop and he TIG welded the hole closed on the breech face. If you look you will see that the hole for the firing pin is drilled from the back of the action thru the stock bolt lug, thru another part of the frame , then thru the breech face.  Each time the hole is smaller so I made a mandrel from a 1/4" dia. piece of drill rod that would fit closely and drilled the end to hold a .062 drill, ( super glued the drill bit in the end of the mandrell ) and drilled thru the weld from the backside, went very easy, no problem, then with a dremel tool and a stone ground off and polished the breechface where there was a very small amount of excess weld. The firing pin I chucked up in the lathe and turned it at high speed and with a stone in my dremel tool ground the tip of the pin to about .060 then with a felt wheel in the dremel polished it back to a mirror finish, worked perfect with no other modifications, used the same spring and have had zero problems.
That rifle by the way is about the most accurate rifle I have ever worked with, After I gave it to my friend we went to Wyoming with a bunch of different guns to try and out of 11 antelope that we shot 3 were taken with that rifle at ranges from 290 to 510 yards, it was amazing. He says he feels like he has the
" Hand of God " with that rifle.    Jed

Hmmmm interesting I have a Model 18EM Baikel here in front of me and I can see nowhere on the barrel lump where there could be a key. So I am wondering if the Spartan might be slightly different  ??? another difference is that on these guns imported in the UK have inset disc strikers so these would not need welding up as a new disc with smaller hole could be made a screwed into the breech face.

Now I have two of these break action 12 bores one which has much better wood on it was proofed/imported into the UK back in 1975 this has good wood to metal fit unlike the later ones like the 1986 one and then I have a model 18M from 1984 which is a 20 bore magnum which appears to have been made in a different factory to the other two which were made in the same factory as my .222 Rem MH18 rifle.

Now the action I can see no problems with, a new smaller firing pin and a new inset striker disc, and I have a .30 cal barrel that can be the liner and I have in mind a special wildcat rimmed cartridge of my own design.
So I am looking at how much trouble it will be to make a new lump with a breech in one piece into which the rifle barrel can be screwed directly into similar to the way the Russians have down with the rifles. This way I can perhaps have an octagon barrel which I rather fancy to idea and look of  ;) and which would not be possible if the shotgun barrel was sleeved.

Hearing of the superb accuracy of your rifle is certainly encouraging  ;D.

Here is my latest #1 in 6.5x284. It too is very accurate. It is not surprising that the #1's are accurate. All of my collection of #1's
are accurate. This rifle started as a 243Win and was rebored and had the barrel milled octagon. It also has a Kepplinger single set trigger.

The Alex Henry fore arm was created from the standard bravertail fore arm. The new shape is much lighter, slimmer and 2" shorter. It makes the rifle look much trimmer. Of course with the octagon barrel the whole rifle is lighter even though it has a 26" barrel. The rifle will go deer hunting next week it is loaded with 140gr Nolser Patition bullet and H4198 @2950 mv.

The pictures could be better.
