Fletching ripping off...
« on: August 23, 2007, 11:09:20 PM »
Help...  Please?  Shooting a High Country ForeRunner set at 62 lbs.  Shooting a whiskerbisket (it's the one with the loading slot at 10 o'clock on it.  I took it to a German pro shop (I'm stationed here) but he had no experience with the WB.  My vanes are about 4 inches and they are tearing off at the rear.  Not all of them, just one.   Any suggestions?  Ideas?  Best glue to put them back on.  Right now, I'm just using a generic super glue.

Thanks,

Since I started using he same whisker biscuit I went to the Duravanes. They are a more durable than the 4" vane and I think they stabilize the broadheads better. Also with a whisker biscuit, make sure you have the fletching turned so that it is not hitting on release. My setup is with one vane up two down.

What arrows?
Are they factory fletchings or did someone else put them on?

I like my new 2" blazers with my WB.

Don't forget to add a drop of glue to the front and back of the fletching.
Oh, and I like Goat Tuff.

Sounds like to me your fletching is hitting your cables when you are drawing back. Contact with the rest, cables or bow window on the shot would tear at the front of the fletching. You may have to turn your cable guard, as some have an offset to adjust for this. Or you may have to turn the nocks on your arrows to direct the fletching away from the cables. If the fletching is hitting on the way back, it probably is hitting after you release also and may be affecting arrow flight.

I fletch my own arrows and always add an extra drop of glue at the front and rear of my fletching......I also recomend it to those that buy their arrows preflecthed. It isn't as important if you're buying your arrows from a small shop that fletch their own, but arrows bought at large chain stores(walmart, Cabelas. Bass Pro, etc) are generally machine fletched and the amount of glue applied to the fletching is minimal at best. The fletching on these types of arrows usually doesn't hold up well to rain/dew and/or target shoot thrus.

I would make sure that your noc is turned so that your Fletchings go around the dark triangle at the bottom of the WB, not through it. My arrows are set up so that the nocs are 90 degrees from where they would normally would be.
