CABELAS AND BLACK POWDER

Went to Cabelas in FT. Worth,TX. yesterday to buy some GOEX BLACK POWDER.
was told that all they had left was FFFG (one can) to bought it.
I ask when their would be more, the "outfitter" smiled and said NO MORE BLACK POWDER.
I was told that when Cabelas stock was gone, they were out of the black powder bus.
they were not going to go through the process of selling it under the new regs. they will continue to sell sub. or Replica i guess.

Where do you get your black powder if it is harder for people to handle it?

that seems to be the QUESTION, from what he told me, all lots #'s  have to be locked up separately something about not having more than 25lbs. he said they would have to have a separate room just for BP and they are not going to do it. I have e-mailed Goex to see if anyone in this area plays to keep selling it.

Depending on how much you want to buy you can always get it online from http://powderinc.com/ several people I know have used them and have nothing but good things to say about them. I am lucky I live close enough to Friendship, In. that I can just run over to the NMLRA range during a match and pick up a few pounds when I need it.

If i remember correctly GOEX is made in Louisiana so once or twice a year i could do a
weekend trip and buy some, I guess my main Problem is i just don't understand why other powders aren't just as suspect, seems to me if i wanted to blow some thing up the or other
powders that would work just as well if not better.

Rex,

The others are classed as oxidizers not explosives like black powder is. Since they are classed that way the storage regs are different than explosive class powder.

some of those space bandits have vaporizer guns, never knew i was shooting an
oxidizer gun.
I went to Powder inc., they say that the OSHA deal has been shelved for the present
so maybe we have a reprieve.

Most retailers have just given up on BP because it's not a money maker.

Consider the facts, you must have an ATF Explosives license, your insurance goes up 10 fold, if you rent a store front the landlord may prohibit BP, the local Fire Marshall may prohibit BP, you must store it within 10 feet of an exterior entrance and the list of reasons goes on.

The problem that I see is that these laws make all BP shooters buy in bulk and store 5 - 10 - up to 25 pounds of powder other than just getting the pound or so needed.  If a black powder club buys 50 pounds of mixed powder for distribution to it's members as routine, then the chance of a terrorist buying 50 lbs. is just that much easier as buying in bulk becomes more common.

But once again, those making the laws don't care if a school bus gets blown up with 50 lbs of BP.  As long as they have an anti-gun, anti-terrorist, background for the voting public, even if closer examination reveals the ludicrous nature of the law.

When i buy sub. or rep. black powder their are no questions ask , here it is have a good day, and i think it is the same
for smokeless rifle or pistol powder. When i buy black powder they want my drivers license
and they disappear into the back room and 10 min. later they let me pay and then walk me to the door, then hand me my purchase. this tells me that if i was buying for unlawful
reason,DON'T BUY BLACK POWDER. i am sure that when someone is blown up they could
care less if it was black powder or replica, or smokeless and lets throw a few boxes of 30-06
and 375 hh in the barrel with the powder.
