Should Early Frames be converted to Easy Open (YEA or NAY)
« on: June 05, 2003, 02:46:55 PM »
Hey Guys____Just curious ,have any of you had your Early Frames converted to Easy Open, and if so ,are you glad you did? Also have any of you regretted the conversion .For example ,before conversion ,the barrels that were difficult to open ,did conversion solve that problem or other preblems you might of had or did it just create unforeseen ones  that are harder to live with then before the conversion?Very interested in your replys. THANKS BAYRUNNER

My contender is a early model , sn 165XXX it has not been converted to easy open but is easy enough to open for me so it will stay as is .
I have had it for 11 months now and it is one of my favorite guns .

Early frames

I have an early frame and sometimes it is a little hard to open.  But I found that if I just hit it with the heel of my hand it opens readily enough.  I sent my trigger off to reduce the pull and creep.  Since then my frame has not been hard to open.  I don't know why a trigger job would help in this area but it seems to be the case.
The older I get the better I was!

I have an early model frame that I sent to Fox Ridge Outfitters last December to have converted to the Easy Open version. Yep it added to the price of the frame, but in my opinion it was well worth it. But then I suffer from tendionits, and at times if I shoot to much the constant squeezing back on the trigger guard spur to open the frame causes my hand to swell. Ater the conversion I have had no problems. I have used a couple different barrels on this frame with no problems. However I recently picked up another frame so the one I had converted is now dedicated to my Super 14 Match Grade .22 LR Barrel only.

Bayrunner,
I have two early (5-digit) frames. I sent both of them back to T/C for misfiring/lock-up problems. They were both converted, by T/C, to easy open - FREE! The first one, I was a little disappointed, as they didn't tell me that they were going to do it. The second one, I kind of half-way expected it. That said, I have no problems with either system. The new hammer IS easier to deal with, when yuo forget to switch from rimfire/centerfire until you get into the field. That I do quite regularly, guess it's Allzhiemers!,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

I have 3 barrels now and just moved one along that I could not get to shoot to my satisfaction , of the 4 barrels I have had no problems with lockup or opening on the old frame.
Today is a range day with the 7 TCU and to work with one of my rifles .
