« on: August 25, 2007, 02:52:52 PM »
Well I finely got it. I brought it home today the 700 SPS Varmint 243 today. I have to say I like it alot. I just put the scope bases and the 8.5x25x44 Muller Tactical on it. I used lock tite when I put the bases on. I will head out to the range in the morning and give you guys a range report tomorrow. I can't wait till then. I will be using this rifle for groundhog hunting.     Dale

I have some cheap Remington 100 grain I will be using to get on paper.  I will fine tune it with 58 grain Hornady Vmax for the groundhogs.      Dale

Well guy's I made it out to the range this morning. I have to say it is about the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I started out looking down the bore and centering it on the target. I then adjusted the scope to hit center of the target. My first shot was about 1 inch right and 2 inches high. after getting it sighted in at 100 yards I moved out to 200 yards and that is where I have it sighted in now. I will keep it that way because most of my shots are past that. I was getting groups at 100 yards that were 3/4 of an inch and less. I had one group that the holes were touching like a clover leaf. At 200 they were about an inch or so. Needless to say things are only going to get better after it is broken in. I am thinking of doing the Flitz job to the barrel some time this week to speed up the break in time. One other thing i noticed was it likes the barrel a little fouled. It would not group well until it had 4 or 5 rounds through it between cleanings. The triger is real nice it has no creep to it at all and breaks very clean. The weight of pull on the triger has to be brought down it is way to heavy now.           Dale

Congrats Dale,Ole Remington still makes some of the best shooters around.I leave my barrels fouled on my Rems, they shoot better that way and I want my first shot to be on center every time.Post pics when you can.

So it worked out as I said it would. It's not a handi rifle and don't need a bunch of hassle to make it shoot. Simply amazing.  ;D

Leave the Flitz for the handies, you will see the difference when you but a cleaning patch through it. The break-in is done. You will find it real nice to shoot a gun the will shoot most any round you put in it very well. Got to go along with what G.B. and NONYA said.

I didn't want to say it but I will. This is no Handi. I have alot of friends on the other side and would not want anyone with hurt feelings. The reason I went to a bolt was I was just not getting the accuracy that I needed on these long shots. GB you were right and I do not think I will change a thing other than the weight of the trigger. Thanks Nonya for the link. I have not checked it out yet but will. I just hope it is something I can do myself. Thanks guy's Dale

Have you put a gage on that new trigger? The groups you're shooting say it can't be all that bad. From the few reports I've heard so far on the new triggers they come adjusted to about 3-4 pounds which is fine really for a hunting rifle. That's about all I adjusted mine to even with the old triggers. I've not gotten one with the new trigger yet so am not sure what to tell you on adjusting it. But until I measured it and found it over 4 pounds I'd not mess with it to be honest.

Dale I still have handies to fool with when I get bored. Witch is not to often with this hot weather. Just enjoy the gun.

GB I don't have a scale. I do know I have to put a concois effort to squezing the trigger. wondering when it is going to break.     Dale

Then ask on the Gunsmith Forum I'm sure some of our gunsmiths there will have some ideas on adjusting it. So far I've seen darn few reports on the new trigger but it seems what I have seen they said it was pretty good as it came but I think perhaps two or three is all I've seen so far.

Well I finally got it but I can't seem to get one yet. Groundhogs that is. I sighted it in on Sunday and I have had the past couple days off. So I have been hitting the fields real hard the past couple days. Real early in the morning and late in the evenings. I have only saw two and a house was down range from one so I could not shoot at it. The other one I almost hit with the truck driving out to one of the farms I hunt. I will be off tomorrow and hope I have better luck.  Dale

Well I painted the stock cammo tonight. I decided to just paint the stock and not all of the rifle like I did with my Handi. It came out real good even better that the Handi.       Dale
