OT: Interesting test results

Here's what happens to several makes of 30-06 rifles when a bullet is lodged in the bore ~3" from the throat and another round is fired, all barrels that didn't burst were bulged.

interesting. i got to see something similar when i stopped in at my gun shop on friday. the owner had a barrel form a .32-20 ruger stainless vaquero. the owner of the gun shot 2 FULL cylinders (12 shots) without a bullet making it out of the barrel. he was shooting handloaded jacketed bullets at low speed. he didnt notice anything wrong until the cylinder stopped turning. the final bullet was lodged in the cylinder and forcing cone. i just cant believe he saw no impacts on his target or beyond and kept on banging away. i also cant believe that other than needing a new barrel the gun was fine.

It is interesting that the only guns that had badly burst barrels were of USA manufacture, The Browning and the Remington. All the barrels of the European guns seemed to hold together better....<><....;)

I agree, thanks Tim,it is very interesting  that the failures were American.Is  this a result of our love affair with light weight rifles,read light weight barrels??.This is a great example of barrel vibration, to the extreme. The amount of flex,for lack of a better word, was amazing.   Doug

My thoughts exactly after seeing the Remington.  Wow!  That 700 really came apart!

Several of the barrels appeared to leak at the bulge without bursting.
As far as barrels go the Browning is manufactured in Japan.
