New Steve Brooks Bullet
« on: June 06, 2003, 03:43:33 AM »
Well, I have been shooting a Sharps 45-70 (always with BP) for several years and have used about every off-the-shelf bullet mold available.  I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 545gr Creedmore form Steve Brooks.  This mold is perfect and cast the best 30/1 bullets to date.  The size is perfect and the two top driving bands are .450 so I can seat the bullets with two grease groves showing.  My load is as follows: R-P brass, Rem 9 1/2 primer, n.p. over primer wad, 70 gr. Swiss 1 1/2, 0.60 fiber wad, compressed very little (less than .010"). No sizing of the brass, bullets hand seated.  The bullets are pan lubed with Lee Shaver's BP Moly lube.  I think I am going to like this bullet.  Yesterday, shot 10 shot group at 400 yds. you can cover with the palm of your hand.  Did this severa times.
Anyone else using this bullet? What has been your experience with this bullet?  Make Smoke!
Do a lot of CAS, and BPRC. Love to shoot them Buffalo Guns, Both silhuette and long range.

Kid,

Steve doesn't do email or have a web site.  He does however, make superb moulds and gets them to you in record time.  I just got a special design mould for a 35 Maynard I'm playing with and he had it to me in less than 10 days, dimensions were perfect.  His tel # is (406) 782-5114.

If you don't have a special design, I'm sure he will cut what you need.  I also have a 305 gr FN for my 38-55 that is extremely accurate both with BP and breech seated.  I gave some to a buddy to try at a nearby Schuetzen match and I believe he came in second.

Try one of his moulds, you won't regret it.

This may fly in the face of someone and for that I apologize, but in my opinion, as someone who has tried them both, I favor Paul Jones moulds.
Brooks moulds are good, but I think Pauls are a bit better. Again, this is just my oipinion, but I have used them both and own 2 Brooks and 3 Jones.
