Encore Trigger Job - Where to send?
« on: August 27, 2007, 05:52:00 AM »
I've got an Encore frame (handgun) I'd like to get a trigger job on.

I wanted to get some input on who to send it to.  I'm aware of SSK, EABCO, and some others.

Also think there might be someone connected to ED's TC's that does "trigger enhancements" , but I didn't get the fellow's name while I was at the Tulsa Gun Show.

Just want to get some input as to where you'd send your Encore and why.

Thanks.

Go to http://www.lasc.us/ and look for articles on Contender and Encore Accuracy.  They will lead you to several good smiths.  Jim Henry lives in CA.  They both do exceptional trigger work on contenders and encores.

EABCO did mine when I bought the frame from them several years ago.  It came out pretty good,  nice and crisp and breaks at 2.5 lbs.

I just got mine back from Straton Custom (www.stratoncustom.com) . He did it perfectly and I had it back in two weeks from the day I shipped.
I know there others out there as good.

I took my Encore to a local gun store and had them measure the trigger pull as it currently is.  Now, since I've gotten the frame, I've constantly been dry firing (but protecting the firing pin) and constantly working the trigger attempting to make it better.  I've also oiled the mechanism.

The trigger has gotten a bit better since I got the gun.

Using a digital trigger scale, and only checking it twice, here's the results:

1.  3 lb, 8 oz.
2.  3 lb, 11 oz.

Better than I thought it'd be, but not where I want it to be.  It's really hard to keep from jerking when the trigger finally breaks using the trigger scale, so it might actually be a slight bit less than measured.

I would like to be around 2.5 lb (no more than 3 and not less than 2 lb.)  Seems like a good place to be for my purposes.

Does anyone know of a Tulsa, OK, area gun smith that has experince with T/C Encore's?  I'd really like to keep my business local if possible.

Thanks.
