Which rifle is this?

I got an 8mm Mauser (I think it is an 8mm Mauser) in a trade a couple of years ago and don't really have any use for it so I am going to sell it on one of the online gun auctions. I would like to positively identify it though. It has the "straight out" bolt that doesn't go down about 20-30 degrees like most bolt actions it is at a 90 degree angle to the barrel. I took a few pictures this morning (not too good quality) that I will post on here. It looks like Turkish writing and symbols on the area in front of the bolt. Any info would be appreciated. you own a turk mauser, just one of about a billion made. :)

they aren't worth much for resale or collector value, but they can be built into very decent sporter rifles. you have a "small ring" receiver and you can find parts and new barrels on gunparts.com.

assuming it's in good shape, headspace and rifling, you can shoot it and have a good time applying the ice to your shoulder after the 8mm surplus ammo imprints the metal buttplate into your collarbone. :)

i love mausers...i really do...i own way too many.

it really is not worth selling online, in my opinion. turks were so common and usually in such a condition that they bring maybe $50- $75, and once you pay FFL transfer and shipping you broke even.

but yes there is a classifieds at the bottom of the page.

Let me fill you in on the Model 38 Turk Mauser you have.
You have a large ring Mauser model 98 action that has small threads.It is kind of like a hybrid 98/96.
The bolt and receiver are like a 98 and the barrel threads like a 95 or 96 being smaller in diameter than a 98.
I have built sporters on thes actions:
Here is a 25-06:


Here is a .308:
(the 280 is a VZ24):


Keep in mind that if you build on a '06 based cartridge that you must alter the magazine well to accept the longer cartridge or seat the bullet a little deeper than usual to clear the mag well.
