Can the SPS be changed over to a detachable box magazine. Instead of the floor plate. Dale

Dale - Why mess with a good thing? You are getting 3/4" groups at 300 yards. By changing it over to a box magazine, the delicate and important bedding of the stock may change and mess with your accuracy. Leave it alone, it don't get much better than that 3/4" @ 300 yards. If you want to mess around with stuff, get into hand loading and try different loads.

3/4" groups @ 300? Some would die to get that at 100 let alone 3! If you fiddle around and mess it up, you'll have everyone on here saying we told ya so!

If I didn't already have one like it I would try to buy it off of you. Don't mess it up. If you just have to tinker with one go and buy a old beet up handie to fill your time with. Most people don't like a detachable mag on one I know I wouldn't.

Dale if your SPS is the matt black it can be got with the DBM in alot of cal's . So now you need someone to buy yours and you get a sps DBM it may shoot not as good or maybe as good as yours. As for likeing the DBM I have a 97 Rem 260 BDL SS DBM and love it and it shoots.

MS I asked a simple question that I did not know the answer to. I hunt alot of fields and find it a pain in the ass to have to unload my rifle to ride a mile down the road. I just thought if it was possible that it would be easier to pop a clip out. I do not aprecate your comments for asking something I did not know. I had no idea it could affect the accuracy and This rifle is a keeper. I have no plans to ever get rid of it. There are poeple that spend $1,0000"S of dollars to get a rifle that shoots this good and I realize that. I would have never saved that target and walked all that way to get it if it weren't true. I wish I had a camera that worked so I could show you guy's the target. Dale

Push the button inside the trigger guard bow and drop the magazine floor plate to dump the rounds into your hand. Takes no more time than removing a clip.

After all this I think I will just leave well enough alone besides changing the weight of pull on the trigger. I have decided to take it to my gun smith for that. I kind of guess I am used to toying around with things from my Handi past. Dale

I will say this though. The next time I get the time to go to the range. I will shoot some more groups at 300 yards because this was at the end of the session and I ran out of ammo. I want to be sure this was not a fluke. Like I said I have a hard time believing myself that this rifle shoots this good. Dale

No he stated it was for three shots. But my best ever group was a one shot group when I ran outta bullets and had no more to shoot.

Dale - Why don't you get a single load tray for your SPS? You just drop it in the magazine well and close the magazine door. You have an instant single shot. Just jack out the loaded cartridge, put it in your shirt pocket and pop it back in when you get to your new location. I have a cartridge carrier on my butt stock to carry more rounds with and they are handy to get to.

I have the DM on my bdl,i love it,if there is a conversion available go for it,i doubt it will reduce the accuracy of the rifle.I keep 2 steel clips loaded with my hunting loads and one plastic clip loaded with lighter solids for fur friendly situations like bobcat or fox,talk abount convenient!

I don't believe the detachable mag conversion will hinder accuracy. If it's the Kwik-Clip conversion, it may help ever so slightly because the Kwik-Clip feesd the rounds in the center, in essence a double to single stack.

The downside is that you can no longer load your rifle without removing the magazine and loading it separately. The BDL-DM, Mossberg 4x4, and older Savage C models are the only domestic bolt actions whose detachable mags can also be fed while inside the rifle.

The good side - the Kwik-Clip conversion can be removed from your 700 and the original mag restored so that the rifle is just as it was before, with no penalty for having tried something new.
