I got a reply from the second email I sent to Tom Moyers, he's not casting brass until after Dec 1st, didn't offer more info than that. ::)

I was struck by something odd on this web site. If you click on trigger guards you'll find they make one for the Browning A-bolt, just a simple loop with two bolt holes which is priced at $93.00. One for the Ruger 77 is a bit more complex because it has the floorplate latch but costs $69.00, while the one for the H&R is far more complex than the other two and costs only $17.00????

That's because everybody knows we iz cheap buggerz!  ;D ;D ;D

I just talked to Tom Moyers, he's mailed out some of the trigger guards and spacers already, Monday he's shipping the brass guard and spacer I ordered in August, but it may be the last of the brass he does for a while, at least until he gets a dedicated crucible for brass. When he does brass casting, then steel subsequently in the same crucible, the copper residue left in the crucible gets transferred to the steel parts, then will neutralize the entire tank of bluing salts when the steel parts are blued.

Anyway, steel parts are on the way, and thanks to Kurt (Phatinjun) for the heads up on his being shipped. ;)

That's typical of cast brass parts from my experience, as long as the holes are precise, and the dimensions are correct, thats the important part.  Brass can be polished up real nice, having a buffing wheel on your bench grinder will make quick work of it, a dremel tool will work to, specially for the finer details. Even the factory steel guard needs a little fitting, so don't be surprised if the trigger guard isn't perfect. Mine should be here tomorrow. ;)

Yea I see no reason for great concern as a matter of fact I just ordered a set of steel and another set of brass for future projects. I could not stand it (the withdraws) of not having the wait and the anticipation in my life . Kurt

Got em, there's a problem with the spacer, the top rear "legs" aren't parallel, don't know if it's soft enough to bend, or I'll have to heat it, gonna ask Tom what I should do. The trigger guard looks pretty good, although it won't fit the frame very close at the rear, looks like he ground too much off.
Here are some pics...

I don't think I would be happy with this guys products and all of the trouble yall had to go through. Maybe others will be better. I would stick with the plastic.

I think I could work with the trigger guard. Clean it up a little and spray paint it or use something like the truck bed liner paint and not clean it up any. It should be ok as far as that goes. Now the forearm spacer. I don't think anything can be done that hasn't been said. I would stick with the plastic and maybe paint it.

How about the metal composition; after finishing and polish is the alloy able to take blueing? Or maybe aluminum black or some other chemical coloring method? ???

I don't know why you would want to paint them...for me I bought the brass so that I could make them shine and I see no reason they should not polish fine . I have ordered a set of the steel ones that will probly be painted or even blued on future project. Kurt

Tim I got a steel/cast spacer that came off a 19 0 something oak forearm for a old H&R scatter gun that I use on my USH barrel and it is virtually identical to the brass spacer so I kind of wonder if thats not what his mold is modeled from. I also wonder is the offset on your spacer caused by stress when it comes out of the mold ,maybe it will straighten when mounted to the wood? Kurt

As Kurt said, why in the world would I want to paint it? ::) I ordered brass so it could be polished to match the hammer on my 45-120 BC, brass work just takes a little work, although with power tools, it's a lot faster than with hand tools. I'll go at it with the belt sander first to remove the mold lines and flash, then on to the buffing wheel and dremel.

I sent Tom a pic of the spacer, he agreed that it should be heated to fix it, so that's what I'll do, if it breaks, he'll replace it.....eventually, he won't be making them for a while, if he does any more. :'(

That's good to here also why I ordered another one as I got a feeling he may not mess with the brass with the troubles you spoke of. Sure would like to get my hands on a couple of brass barrel bands. Kurt

Here's what 20 minutes with a dremel and belt sander has done so far, I spent a couple minutes polishing with a dremel felt buffer and jeweler's rouge to show the potential finish, but it needs another hour or so total work, more than likely. ;)
