If you have one  of these or have shot one of these please tell me how it shoots and performs. I was also looking at the NEF. which one do you think would be more accurate and perform better? thanks

I have one in .243/youth model. The same gun with a 20" barrel and a short stock. I got one for the grandson, it shot so well I got another for myself and put on  a Limbsaver slip on butt pad.

It is very accurate with Remmy COR LOKS/100 GR. I smoothed the trigger group a little and it is nice and crsip.

I like it better than the Remmy SPS model and it has a better stock than the Savage synthetics.

I lucked out and got  a Weaver V10 scope for $99.99, so with a set of rings, the butt pad and a sling I have a very good rifle for <$400.00.

BTW, I was messing around with some dummy rounds and found out this rifle will feed upside down! A lot of folks don't like push feed rifles.

a couple weeks ago i bought my 13 yr old son the 100 atr matte black/camo  in 308.he earned the money working around my jobsites this summer but i held onto some of it for him so it wasn't spent on video games and cd's.i put a cheep tasco scope on it to see how it would shoot,he is going to earn the money for a new nikon,[good way to get extra fall yard work done as well.]
anyway, after a couple trips to the range i have it shooting a 165 grn hornady with 44 grns of 4064 into honest 3/4 inch three shot groups at 50 yds.i haven't had a chance to shoot it for group at 100,seeing's how he shot up the rest of the ammo i brought.we have a bunch of 10" dia. heavy steel discs we use as rifle silhouetes.he didn't have any prob dusting them out to 90 yds,off hand.

my overall opinion, very good rifle for the money,$300 don't buy you much anymore,i know i have paid a hell of a lot more for rifles that didn't shoot any better.handles nice, light for a full frame rifle, decent trigger, nice cushy buttpad[my 9 yr old was shooting it as well]
suggested upgrades would be,improved safety lever, drop floor plate or magazine, and a little more tolerance in the chamber[chamber seems to be cut quite tight causing some cartridges that were full lenght resized,to make the bolt hard to close],but again what do you want for $300.good luck with it,adker

I had the Mossberg 100 ATR also, black synthetic and black metal in 270.  It shot 1" groups with factory loads. Function was perfect. The butt pad is soft too.

Thanks for the info. I saw one at walmart too, and that will be bought after the new year. The price is  right also. It's not that I need it, but I would like a rifle for the 100 yd shot. I've got a 30-30 and 45-70, but since I like the tree lines I've got them sighted in at 50yds. This time before CHRISTmas, will give me time to hunt for a decent scope for it. I'd like to get it right now, but the wife of 25 yrs deserves a real nice diamond ring for Christmas, and putting up with me for that time. I guess it's time to get another gun locker too! This will make 3!

Good choice.  Both in the rifle and the Mrs.  Twenty-five years is quite an accomplishment.  One that many these days do not achieve.  And, yes, I agree, buy the Mrs. that ring.

If you have the success I've had with my ATR, you will not be disappointed.  I have a .30-06.  It shoots 1 - 1 1/2" groups regularly and has had a couple sub 1" er's from time to time.  My hunting pardner recently picked up an ATR package model in .243.  I've seen him shoot three shot 1 hole groups at 100 yards several times using Federal Power Shocks.  His .243 is a guaranteed sub MOA rifle.  Its absolutely amazing.

Keep us posted.

I went to wally world again today. This was after I went and got the Mrs. a real nice diamond ring! The girl that runs the sporting goods dept. tells me she hasn't seen anyone so intense about any rifle. It's going to be hard not to get it before Christmas, but I have other rifles to shoot. DUH! This might be my last rifle!

Well, I kind of bought the "pig in a poke" !  A co-worker of mine called me and told me that his son, Kevin, who is a deputy sheriff in my county has a co-worker that won a Savage rifle at the recent Ducks Unlimited banguet and wanted to sell it because he didn't need it.  This rifle is chambered in 270Win and this guy wanted $250 for it, so being a sucker for a good deal I told him I'd take it.  I never met the guy that won the rifle and bought it through Jerome (my co-worker) and Kevin.  Low and behold when Jerome brought the rifle to me my new Savage turned out to be a Mossberg 100ATR.  I have been turning this "sow's ear" into a silk purse by hand lapping the bore and tuning a handload that will optimize accuracy.  It is showing signs of being a real tack driver, but the groups started horizontal stringing and I found the weaver style bases had shot loose.  I didn't check the base screws for torgue but did make sure there was no movement in them when I first mounted my Vari-X II Leupold in new Warne steel rings.  I forgot to mention this was a package gun with a junk scope and rings mounted at the factory.  I retightened the base screws but am wondering if these aluminum bases will stay tight or whether I should replace them with a good set of steel bases.  If they should be replaced what weaver base will fit this reciever?  I really don't want to replace the base unless I have to.  I think I will eventually have to replace this gritty trigger though, it breaks at a decent pull weight but the creep kind of irritates me.  I am kind of gradually turning into a rifle snob, but I have a feeling this rifle and I will have an endearing and long relationship if I can smooth out the rough spots.  Thank you in advance for any advice on this.

I removed the bases on mine then cleaned inside the screw holes in both the receiver and bases.  I put a drop of blue loctite in the holes of the receiver before remounting them.  That was just over four years ago.  I've had no problems.  My ATR is a .30-06 with a Bushnell Legend 3X9X50 and Weaver Quad-4 rings, which are aluminum as well.

Good luck with your ATR.  I like mine very much.

It's killing me to wait to get the ATR 'til after new years. And what makes it even worse, I'll have to wait because I want it in a 308! Knowing me I'll probably get it in the 270 cal.  ::) But if they have it in-store 30-06 then I'll get it. It really would be cheaper to get it in 270, since I already have reloading dies for it already, plus the primers, cases, and all. AH heck, I'll get it in 270! But then again, who knows! ::) ??? ::)

Hey!  Believe it or not, I understand exactly where your coming from.  ;D

You can't go wrong with the .30-06, .270 or .308.  All you would need to load for the .30-06  and .308 would be a set of dies.  They have to be just about the most popular dies on the market.  I regularly see used sets for $20 and less.  Each caliber share shell holders and primers and you can use the same powders.  The .308 and .30-06 share the same bullets.  It can't get much easier than that.

If it were me, I'd grab whatever was on the shelf and begin saving for another.     ;D

To date, Mossberg only makes the ATR in 4 calibers:  .243; .308; .270 & .30-06.

A few weeks ago I called Mossberg and inquired if there were additional calibers in the future for the ATR.  I even suggested the .223, 7mm-08 and .25-06.  The person I spoke to told me they were not aware of any plans to expand the caliber offerings.

Oh well.    :'(
