Sugestions on full mannlicher stock I just bought???
« on: September 05, 2007, 11:36:35 AM »
I won on e-bay and Gunstocks Inc is sending me a full Mannlicher forend in walnut. I'm trying to decide what cal to put this on. My first inclination was 7-08 then I thought about 223 then of course I thought how about a 500S&W. I have a factory walnut straight grip stock I thought might make an interesting package. Give me your thoughts. Also thanks to all for your kind thoughts and wishes. This is my second bout with cancer in the last five years. They didn't think it was anything until it came back. I'll lick this thing and be around this board for a long time to come I'm sure. Heck that's why I bought this Mannlicher forend to start another project. I figure I will just be too busy to be sick. I await your replies. Thanks - F50

Fanner,
i'll tell you what, i'd put that mannlicher forend on a huntsman. The standard contour forends are nice for shotguns, and the schnables are great on rifles, thats how i have my Handi's setup by the way, but that mannlicher belongs on a ML in my view, and if i ever get one, thats where it will live.
you asked, lol  ;D

I've got one of the original H&R mannlicher forend, have used it on a 45-70 with iron sights, Tallyho has one of the walnut forends on his 30-30, the one I bought from him, then traded back, but I don't know who made the one he got on ebay, it came from the fella selling the Boyd's stocks!! He put a barrel band on it from a Henry rimfire lever gun IIRC.

Glenn, where ya gonna put the ramrod, carry it in your pocket!! ;D

Oh sure Tim, spoil my great idea with logic and fore thought !  ;D..
na, i was think of keeping the rod with the other stuff in the possibles bag. i dunno, but if i ever get my hands on one of those stocks you can be sure it would live on my huntsman.

It seems that I should wait and see what the barrel channel looks like on this stock before doing anything. This could dictate the choice. I load for .218 Bee and wondered if there were any posts on conversions to .218 Bee and who wold you recommend to do the chamber work?

Where's Stimpy when ya need him!! ;D He had a 218 Bee made from a 22mag barrel, Wayne York of Oregunsmithing did the work for him as he has done for me and many others here. ;)
