Got a Handi
« on: September 05, 2007, 07:02:20 PM »
A buddy of mine gave me a Handi chambered for 243 cal. bull barrel(I think it's a bull barrel with ejector).  I'm thinking of sending the receiver off for a 357mag barrel and selling the 243cal barrel to fund the new barrel.  What kind of issues have you guys seen with the 357mag be it good or bad?  What kind of accuracy can one expect using cast boolits?  I do reload for 357mag pistols, so can I use the same 158gr swc for plinkers?  How does it shoot 38spl.?  Thanks in advance guys.
In Christ,

Joel C.

Before you sell the 243 barrel you'd be wise to check to see if they have any 357 barrels left, get your order in right away, they only had about 30 last week and they're going like hotcakes!! ;) (866)776-9292.

Thanks Quick.  I called them yesterday and the lady on the phone assured me they had "plenty" of them left.  What that meant is anyone's guess.  What are 243cal. barrels going for now days on this forum?  Thanks for your response.  Later.

I would determine if it's a bull barrel or not, if it's close to .800" at the muzzzle it is, if it's .smaller than .700", it's a standard contour. Barrels sell for anywhere from $90 to $125, sometimes more.

Quick, I called NEF again this morning just to see if I would get a similar story as yesterday.  Well, it was a bit different.  The gentleman said they had plenty of 357mag barrels, but it would take about 6 weeks to fit and return the barrel.  Yesterday the lady on the phone said it would take 10-15 days. ???  What is your experience?  I'll measure the 243cal. barrel and get back with ya tonight.  Thanks again bro. ;D

Turn around time just depends on their work load, they both may be right!! The 6 weeks is probably just a CYA answer, if it takes less, you'd be happy, if they told ya 2 weeks and it took 6 weeks, you'd be a bit out of sorts. In any event, I'd not hesitate, they could get a run on the what 357 barrels they have left and you won't get one for months!! :-\
